Fan made PokemonGO alternative?

I noticed Niantic started to close the bots today.... another reason for doing a community game

Not really... Niantic doesn't own Pokemon, and if it is free fanmade, shouldn't be a problem...

I'm sorry, but your naivety of copyright law is going to get you sued. "Fan made" games are completely illegal. The only reason you can find fan made games online is because they're awful and the license owners don't care. The instant anything decent gets made they jump on it immediately.

Also, because apparently you weren't aware, the bots are not legal. Even if they were, they don't infringe copyright in the same way a fan game does. But nonetheless Niantic has issued DMCA take-down notices, as well as cease and desist notices, to all of the bots. The majority of them have pulled their code offline and the ones who haven't are doing so with the knowledge that they are breaking the law. Most of them are presumably in countries such as Russia that do not enforce international copyright laws very firmly.

And just so you know, Niantic may not own Pokemon. But they own Pokemon Go. And a Pokemon Go clone would be infringing their copyright. Nintendo would also be able to sue you, because you'd be using both of their licenses.

I don't want to make a PokemonGO Clone... Companies take legal actions when you make money with their copyrighted stuff, and that is something i don't have in mind...

I can make a Open Source game with some features and GUI called "Catch the monsters", nothing related to Pokemon, nor the characters.... but being Open Source... you get the point?

I believe some chinese (or other asian origin) developer has already created something like this. I lost the link, but I remember seeing it on pokemongo reddit of someone who made a game like pokemon go with distorted pokemon and stuff.

Also, i don't believe that a reason to go to a new game because "bots are being banned on this game" is really something valid. If you create a game and its filled with cheaters, no one will want to play it.

Well... cheating is not something i want in my game neither... cheaters exist because the game have "in game selling" scheme, and because game "logics" allow cheating, so having some things in mind i think you can defeat cheating. It has been done in other games where they have an auto ban system based on "natural human" behaviour evaluation.

But my idea is not about cheating, or bots... its about making a new game, free, full of new features...

I think we could make a really big game, having all the features we all know PokemonGO lacks...

I was thinking in "Safe Battlezones" by example, where you can challenge nearby people. I also have a lot other features i think can break the "monotony"... you know...

I'm pretty sure if we start making this FREE fanmade game, a lot of skilled 3D designers / animators will show up and give support.

3d designers worked for free, as i worked as a game programmer for free... the same way "pokemon bot" creators worked for free...

You just show that you dont know what you speaking about. This thing wouldnt be a project to do in some evening hours and the costs (Coding, Server and and and) will kill you...
