Will another emulation contest work? It will need to be improved from the last attempt at one since hardly anyone applied in the end.

Better rewards? The rewards were good enough imo.
Longer Time Frame? It was open for 2+ weeks wasn't it? That should be long enough.
One big competition (marked on originality etc)? Some people can win hands down easily making it unfair on other users.
Different Usergroup Categories? Well this leads on from the previous idea, you could have submissions for anyone below contrib, one for contrib, one for elite, one for emu expert, but this is too many groups. It would need to be cut down, and even then there are certain people who will be able to enter and win easily.

You can learn a lot from the last competition, that had big rewards and a very open contest, but only a few people entered in the end.

Indeed, might not be enought to motivate them though. But i might be able to get something else.

If an iPod Shuffle (which was new at the time), money, gold and a VIP account on a server didn't motivate people I don't know how reputation/$15 iTunes cards will.
