AOL Search Logs *oldie but a goodie*

in august of 2006 aol made a big boo-boo and accidentally posted the search queries done by 500,000 of there users. they had secretly been capturing this information and replacing the user name with a unique user id per search query set. they figured this was enough to anonymise the queries. they were very wrong. As a result of this leak a man in new jersey was arrested and questioned about his searches on ways to kill his wife and numerous other people lost there jobs, were put at financial risk, etc.

People search for the dumbest things such as Ego searches. Searching for things such as their social security # and their credit card #.

Anyways there has been much analysis on this data since its release still today new information is being pulled from it. this is a data miners gold mine. simple grep searches will pull back tons of information. if you want to check these files out for your self you can obtain them here:
