Here's my answer:
48÷2(9+3)

So we do parenthesis first and we get
48÷2*12

Now we do it from left to right since multiplication and division both have same priorities so we get:
24*12

Answer the problem and we get:
288

12 * 2=24
48/24=2

Your arguments are invalid:

Case 1:
It should be written like this
48/(2(9+3))
= 48 / (2*12)
= 48 / 24
= 2

Case 2:
Or like this
(48/2) * (9+3) = 288

I've done some searching and asked a few math teachers at my school, and they all give the same answer: 288.

Why?

The sequence in maths would be
( )
roots + that other one I dont know english term of
: x on equal level
+ - on equal level

So, because : and x (divide and multiply) are on equal level, the only way you can/may look at it is simply from left to right.

48 : 2 (9 + 3)
48 : 2 (12)
48 : 2 = 24
24 (12) = 288

It's like reading, in multiplication you move from left to right but division and multiplication get priority.
