Looking for gaming laptop, any suggestions?

So I'm looking for a laptop UNDER $1,000 that can handle gaming and other graphic intensive things. I do a lot of photography, and I'm tired of getting mixed results when I view them on different screens. I have a graphics card in the laptop I use now, but it's not all that great. A good screen is also important (I'm not too concerned about the size, and I would prefer to keep it under 17" for portability).

I've looked at the Alienware m11x (which are on sale for $599 until March 31st), but IDK if the price really justifies the small screen, mediocre video card, small hard drive, and meh-ish processor.

Any suggestions?
