    My computer died...

So I was playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 together with a friend, talking through Skype, like we've done countless times and then suddenly my computer turns off and I hear a sort of cracking sound. What happens next? Smoke comes out off my computer's top fan. Something burned, aye?

I can't turn on my computer, of course. Any ideas what might have happened? If it's repairable?

Sounds like your powerpack , check to see if there is a smell of the fan on the back .. that will confirm it but may not limit it to just your powerpack.. check what watt the pack is perhaps you need a higher one so the simple fix if you wish to try it is replace the powerpack it happened to myself and i put a 700 in to replace my 300 ever since np's

ps. i call it powerpack proper term is " PSU" :P

At first I didn't sense anything wrong, it just smelled like a computer. Now I double-checked and put my nose in farther. Yes, the smell IS a little bit off.

Also, one of my fans had stopped working like 2-3 days prior to this, but my computer never heatened much, it was just... medium temperature, so to speak. But after what happened, the computer was blazing!

the best case would be if your power supply just died and nothing more was effected.

you should check if a different power supply works...

if this does not fix it, your motherbord or cpu was damaged. but in this case you should give the computer to an expert.

edit: maybe the defective fan caused a short-circuit. you should remove this fan before testing a new power supply.
