believe me, a good hacker with any kind of determination (AKA revenge or money from someone wanting revenge) can bypass a firewall easily. I am in a class based around network security, and just to prove how easy it is for somebody with experience to do, our teacher hacked into bank of Montreal to a level just above where he would have full access to every account there. he then turns around and points this out to BMO and gets paid a couple thousand to recommend better security practices to be put in place by their IT techs.
EDIT: this is entirely legal as well, he just informs BMO that he will be performing an intrusion test on ____ date and if they see something wrong coming from _____ IP it is him running the tests.

A firewall can stop a DDoS though, just drops the packets.

As to intrusion testing, it's only legal if they ask him to do it.

well that is more or less what I stated. I guess I should have made it more clear, he requests permission before doing this.
and I am not entirely sure how it works but DDOS packets can be disguised as something they want and as such will bypass the firewall. ask me again in 9 months and we will have gone through the hacking section.

Yes true packets can be disguised but most of the time the firewall detects them anyway because of the shear amount of packets coming through which arouses suspicion anyway, and wow what a job that sounds like, hacking for money, sure would be quite fun

precisely why I went into the course, we learn server administration, active directory control, computer forensics, network security, and preventing hacking.

hehe, I'm in my last year of a course similar to that and ill be taking another course next year but an apprenticeship with it
