Hey folks,
So just about a week ago, my computer decided to die on me. Was working fine when I turned it off at around 4, turned on at 7.30 and it couldn't find a boot drive. Playing around in BIOS told me it couldn't see either the hard drive or the CD drive - so no boot disk joy. That said to me it might be the mobo - but after some googling I discovered that my hard drive has a known firmware fault for which Seagate released a corrective firmware (a year or two after making the drive) the day after mine broke. So I suspect it's the hard drive. Apparently, Seagate had a policy of free data recovery on the particular series of drives, but stopped doing it. So I'm left in a pickly - I can't afford to spend a load of cash on data recovery before RMAing the thing, and I equally can't afford to lose all the data. And I want my computer back :/ Any ideas on what to do? I found a guide on fixing it from the BuSY error and the 0 LBA error, I suspect it's the BuSY one, but I don't know for sure. Halp!
