Hello everyone, I've been a member for quite a little while now, I usually just come visit to further my knowledge of all things awesome, occasionally chiming in with questions about randomness. This time I need the aid of any techies around. I am not sure if this is the right place to be asking but I can't really find a better suited sub-forum.
So anyway! I have an old Abit - IS7 in one of my towers. The computer itself is great, been very very trustworthy till last night. I generally use it to play games and surf the web and things like that. Last night the crappy Northbridge heatsink fan crapped out after four or so months of that anoying death whine those fans tend to make.
My main question would have to be, is it safe to just take the fan out of the heatsink and use the existing heatsink as a passive till I can actually get a decent passive? I clocked it down to factory and it seems to be running great, the heatsink is just slightly warm to the touch when just surfing around, I haven't tried to game yet in fear of burning out the Northbridge. If anyone could shed some light on my situation it would be greatly appreciated!
