Xbox 360 Red ring of Death!

So i got the Red ring of death(Not the 3-4 rings) just the 1 red ring E-74 error message. and i was wondering if there is a way to fixing this without having to send it in.


and i wanted to post that this method does not work and it only with the 4 red rings

Method Two
1) Place the XBOX 360 on a flat surface.
2) Disconnect the hard drive, and the AV cables. Leave the power cord in.
3) Find two-three big towels. (I used two towels, and a blanket)
4) Turn on the XBOX 360.
5) Place towel under and wrap the XBOX 360 around. Place the other towel on top and wrap the sides. I decided to use a blanket, I placed it on the ground and wrapped the XBOX 360 in it along with the towels. The XBOX 360 should be completely wrapped.
6) Leave the XBOX 360 for 15 minutes. Try to be around it while waiting the 15 minutes. Sometimes the XBOX 360 might shut off, you will need to unwrap it and turn it back on.
7) Once you have waited 15 minutes, unwrap the XBOX 360. It should be very warm, shut it off and let it cool off for another 15-20 minutes.
Plug in the Hard Drive, and the AV cables.
9) Turn it on and ENJOY!




so please dont tell me this is the fix because i know its not. i know it has to do with the AV connection i just dont know how to fix it myself

"E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU."

Yeah i noticed it was the AV connection. i take it out and turn the xbox on and it runs. but once i put it in the red light starts flashing.

Was just wondering is there a fix for this?. i know i have to buy the Red ring kit and what not just wondering if there would be more that i would have to buy.

Try over-heating it, Take toothpicks plug up the fan and wait for it to over-heat. After that unplug everything and wait a few seconds then replug it back in and it should work.

ill try doing the towel thing and see if that does the trick...but i think i have to re solder something back to the mother board

i go tthis on my 1st, i did the towel trick but then it just gave iin again after a while, its a problem with your GPU, only way fixing this is sending in or doing a swap trick.

If you go the money simply go buy a new one a take the old one back saying it doesnt work, some shops check the numbers and shit so its better if you swap the casings around aswell.

microsoft just in the past day or so extended the warranty on all 360's for the e74 RRoD. Send it to them for a fix. If you voided your warranty pay someone to reflow the solder on the motherboard, put proper thermal paste on the cpu/gpu, and replace the x-clamp with bolts (this is the only proper way to fix it that's not a hackjob).

The towel trick etc just re-melts the solder and overheats the console. It's not the best concept in the world but is a good temporary fix. E74 = solder disconnect. Melt it and it'll reconnect. Doesn't do anything to prevent this from happening again, but will work at cost of running the console in the red for a while.

By the way, Microsoft just extended the E-74 error warranty, 3 years. Those who paid for service, get their money back.

I wouldnt recommed doing this to your xbox, this will defo **** it up, wrapping it in the towels overheats the xbox which will reset the motherboard which will make the rrod stop for a short time but it will come back and if you keep doing it your xbox will eventually break. If you want to fix your 360 google "xbox 360 xclamp fix" and follow the tutorial.

This worked for me and it didn't.
My xbox got rid of the RLOD, but it still didn't work lol.
I did this method and it still just locks up as it is loading.
It does not matter anyway, I bought an Elite after that.
My other Xbox 360 broke on christmas eve T.T
