    Re: Computer Problems

The running slow while it's going can be an indication of many different things. Could have a virus. Could have an assload of spyware or other types of malware, could just have a packed HDD with not enough paging room. Could have vista loaded on a comp with 512MB ram.. lol. There really are too many possibilities.

I would suggest following the virus scanning links, and do a total system scan. Look up some programs for spyware/malware, run a scan. Under <Start><Accessories><System Tools> do a "Disk Cleanup" and "Disk Defragment" -- check the space available on your primary hard drive, if it's running low, consider getting rid of or moving some stuff to another hard drive, or burning it to a CD.

As far as the monitor not turning on when you hit the power button on your tower, that's a hardware thing. Software won't effect that at all. The times you've noticed your monitor not turning on, does your tower beep differently? Audible post beeps aren't too common anymore when things are working correctly, but they are usually there when something isn't. Bad ram can cause your computer not to start, and could also be part of the reason it's not running well in game, but not something I can diagnose over a forum.

Listen for those beeps next time it happens. If you hear more than one beeps, record what it is. There's long and short beeps, and they're different.. If you get one long <pause> 2 short, it's different than 3 short.

Hope this helps some. If you have any further questions, or more information, post again, will take a look at that too =)

Hm, reminds me of a similar problem I have :/
My PC froze for a final time (After I inserted a scart lead, may not have been the cause, it was freezing almost constantly before that) and now refuses to start up.No perphierals work, and I'm probably gona bring it to a repairshop if it continues to make weird beeps also and not start up.

Would be a good idea -- those "wierd beeps" are what I was talking about in the last post. They're called POST (Power-on Self Test) diagnostic beeps. They are what's used to tell you when something's wrong, when the computer can't start up and tell you with text. It means there's something wrong with the motherboard, or a card/chip attached to the motherboard. It could mean that your ram has failed, that your processor is burnt up, that a expansion card has failed or is not fully seated in the slot.

If you feel confident performing surgery on your tower, a good things to do is re-seat everything. That means pulling it all out, and putting it back in the slot, making sure it's firmly connected. I would only worry about the ram, processor, and expansion cards. If you don't feel confident, or don't know what i'm talking about, take the box into the repair shop, because this problem won't fix itself. =)
