you might think this thread is useless but youd be suprised at how many people dont know how to do this.
Make sure you have the correct type of ram, eg if your computer has DDR RAM and you buy DDR2 then it WONT work.
if your unsure about how to tell then google it
For Desktop
1. first go start>run>msinfo32> in system summary find 'total physical memory'.
remember how much it is.
2. Now, turn off your computer and unplug everything connected to it.
3. take the cover off the case.
4. remove the existing RAM(if neede, if you have a spare RAM slot use that)
and insert the new RAM at a 30degree angle like so:

5. next, make sure the 'clips' are holding the RAM in like this:

6. then gently pull on the RAM to make sure its locked in.
7. now plug everything in but leave the cover off.
8. turn on the computer and repeat step 1.
9. if the RAM isnt being read then take the RAM out and 'reinstall' it
10. then check the ammount of RAM then
11. if it still didn't work then call a computer guy.
12. If its all done then turn off the computer and disconnect everything again. put the cover back on and re plug everything.
For Laptop
1. first go start>run>msinfo32> in system summary find 'total physical memory'.
remember how much it is.
2. turn your laptop over and unscrew the bolts holding the Memory chamber.

3. Find where the RAM is and gently pull it up at a 45degree angle by the corner of the RAM. then lift the RAM out by the sides.
4. when the old RAM is out insert the new RAM the way you took it out but do the step backwards.
5. put the back back on and put the screw in.
6. turn your laptop back on and see if the RAM is installed.
