    Windows XP Troubleshooting

I having some computer issues that I'm hoping someone here could help me work out...succeeding in doing so will result in showers of rep! And by showers, I mean about '2', but still!

    1. If a download is relatively long, as in taking about 8 minutes or more, the download will get halfway or less of the way through the download, then stop...no pop-ups or anything indicate something is wrong. I have downloaded smaller files and have had success, but larger ones...yeah.

    2. Warcraft 3. I'll get into a game, the game will start up, then after a few minutes, I will get booted, return the the main screen, and get 'You have lost connection with Battlenet'. I can immediately log back in and everything is fine...

    3. WoW Forums. I use Firefox, and all of the threads show up with 0 posts and no new threads repopulate the list, just threads frozen there from a couple of weeks ago...huh?

Sounds like either net connection problems, or your computer is clogged up, have you tried deleting cookies, disk defragging, etc, also are you on wireless by chance, or do you have an unsecure wireless router? Someone might be leeching off your wireless causing it to be slow.

I happen to be using a wireless connection. How would I apply security to it so it doesn't get leeched?

Edit: I only can't see the forums on Firefox. It works fine on Internet Explorer...

What router are you using and reinstall/download firefox and unclog your XP!
You can reformat to save time, but I DO NOT recommend to!!!

I actually just downloaded Firefox for a second time before I posted this. I have had Firefox on my computer on two other occasions and I still had issues with the forums.

As for the router, I'll have to check that out when I get back home...

make sure all your hardware is update, uninstall your wireless connection and reinstall it then make sure your firewall is off (come on if someone really wanted to hack you they will)

then forward ports that are needed for example warcraft

PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
    go there to know how,

Now download some sort of anti virus (i use avast) and do a scan make sure all the nasties are gone then download Ccleaner and clean your comp out.

after that you should be fine if still slow then reboot your comp

is your wireless connection password secured? if no then for maby a week or so use an ethernet cable to see if that helps and if there IS anyone leeching off your network. then to start uninstalling programd you dont need or havnt used in a long long time that you dont use. delete any un-used files and folders youdont need or use. then clear all your cookies and stuff.

doing all this should Make your computer run more efficiant. also i nearly forgot. go to start>run>cmd>msconfig>startup and remove anything you dont need to start up. i currently ony have my firewall and anti virus to run when i turn on my computer.

hopefuly some of this info was usefull.
