How to change the registered name on Windows XP

If you are worried about people getting your name from looking at who the computer is registered to, you can do this simple trick.

Click "run" (Windows Key+R/Or find it in the "start" menu)

Type in "regedit" (Without the quotes), now a window that looks like figure1 should appear

    Browse to the following location:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
, using the small plus signs next to the headings (see Figure 2)

To change the name of the registered owner:
    • In the right pane, double-click "RegisteredOwner". Under Value data, type the name that you want, and
    • then click OK. (See Figure 3 for location)

Change the value (name) at the prompt shown highlighted (see Figure 4)

To change the name of the registered company:
    • In the right pane, double-click "RegisteredOrganization". Under Value data, type the name that you want, and
    • then click OK.
NOTE: DO NOT DELETE ANY FILES OR YOU WILL RUIN YOUR SYSTEM! I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY OF WHAT YOU DO WITH THIS
