How to burn movies to watch on a playstation 3?

Can anyone tell me what i need to do to a AVI file so i can burn it to a normal dvd and watch it on a playstation 3? Do the ps3 have to be modded for it?

I can play burned dvds easily... just get avi2dvd or something like that. and burn it... vcdhelp.com
