    Basic Animation.(Picture Heavy)

Programs needed: Photoshop and Imageready.Im using version CS2.
Anyway lets begin.I suggest you use this image for this guide:
First find the image you would like to animate.
Im going to make my avatars animation again. So open up the image
    in Photoshop:

Now duplicate layer 1 once by right clicking it and clicking
duplicate layer. Also before duplicating it go up to Image>Mode>RGB Color.
    Anyway:

Now i will change the color of one of the symbols above his head using the Paint
Bucket tool and once thats done duplicate the edited layer:

Now in the new layer make the second symbol the same color and duplicate it:

Now keep doing the same thing with 2 more colors and once thats done you should
have about 8 layers including layer 1.Make sure at the end one of symbols is red
in the last layer to keep the animation going:

Now go to the bottom of the tools window and click "Edit in Imageready":

Now once in imageready there should be a animations window.Thats where
we create our animation.First hide all the layers except layer 1:

Now on the animations window click the little arrow button on the top right
corner of the window and select "New Frame":

Now with the new frame selected unhide the next layer up:

And then press "New Frame" again and keep unhiding each layer every
time you press it and eventually your animations window will have about 8
    frames or so:

Now your done just go up to file>save optimized as and save it somewhere as a gif file.
Congrats a animated avatar There you have it the basics of animation.Hope this helps.
