Looks good! I only notice a couple of things from first glimpse.

The color scheme is too bland for my taste, I'd love to see some other color in there - maybe some red for the logo and maybe the headlines?

I personally would like some background as well. It doesn't have to be much but some texture will look better than a blank color.

Finally, the main text could use some more spacing, especially at the longer column. It is too heavy on my eyes at least.

I like the whole design, but a two-color web design would look better in my opinion

Not sure if I've seen you around here before. Welcome!

Thanks! Ive been lurker status for a while now, finally decided to start posting
One of the reasons why I made the design so simple was I didnt want to make coding this any harder for my friend and I didnt want to start with anything overly complex for my first design :P

Background textures are easy as hell to add, just create a small (say 3x3px) image and repeat it horizontally and vertically as the background image. The color change is all done in photoshop, no additional coding would be required

Yeah exactly. It is hard to spot on a small canvas, but will look good once repeated across the entire background

A background with effects wouldn't be that hard either; it's the same as using that texture but with a no-repeat attribute in the .css file. All that is required is a large enough image to cover the size of most monitors, letting it scale (bit harder to do), or fading it out on all edges but the top edge. Since you already have a glow from the main content frame a textured background would fit better anyhow.
