Good Lua editor&tutorial request

Hi,

I'd like to write a simple addon with no gui, just a few commands like /addon off. I am a programmer. I don't know lua yet, but it should be no problem to learn for me. What I need is a good lua editor preferably with support for WoW API. As I don't know how actually lua works yet a good tutorial would be nice. Some interpreter as well, so I don't have to run WoW everytime I need to try something.

I will of course google for something, but an advice from people here would be much appreciated. I've tried searching the forum, but I am getting too many unrelated results and the 30s between searches is not helping at all...

Past syntax this doesn't exist.

Aside from that, i'd recommend Notepad++.

Thanks. I will just use the lua executable to run non-WoW specific things. I actually use Notepad++, so that's good news. +Rep for the links.

This book is an okay starter book for lua programming (with the intent to create wow_addons). It goes through the basic lua language and then later adds XML for the GUI. I know you werent looking for the latter but just to give a little insight of what it contains.

I've started and I must say the SciTE editor that comes with the lua bundle is all what I need now. It can even run the script for me and it has debugging (holy cow, script debugging )

I just now need to hook my code to the WoW API.

Thanks for the book, it looks like there is a lua interpreter/editor as an Addon which would be even better to try stuff. +Rep
