[QUESTION] What do you recommend to a complete noob...

I'm looking to start some basic hacks, etc etc. I was wondering what most people recommend starting off with, hopefully a work-as-you-go tutorial or a read a long just so I can get the hands on feel for it..

How long does it take to learn programming? (I realize there are different types, not sure what kind tho :P)

Any other general thoughts?

VB.NET Is very easy to learn but is hard to hack games with, very hard. i would suggest using C# to code hack programs and learn about reverse engineering for hacking

I would start with BlackRain. Its a c# library for wow. You can use it to create bots or hacks. If you can understand how BlackRain works then you can move onto the next step, creating hacks. I really recommend reading over all the posts in the Memory Editing forum. But this will be really had to do if you have never programed b4. I would go buy a book on C# b/c most people like to use C#. The only problem with that is the industry standard is C++. Mmowned book post! This is not easy, it take a lot of work and time. People will not just give you the answer on this forum.

1) Lear to program (Functions, Classes, casting, var types and so on...) A little C++ tut I made LINK
2) Understand BlackRain (What an offset it, Baseaddress, Object Manager and so on...)
3) Play around with Cheat Engine ( example speed hack for 4.0.6a -> Offset : BaseAddress + 0x188DDB replace 9537039 with 2425393296)

VB.NET is very nearly identical to C#. The only difference is syntax.

I wouldn't try doing any sort of reverse engineering until you learn to program competently. Like LogicWin said, you should probably try to learn the fundamental syntax of C that so many languages have adopted as a start for programming. There are many languages out there that could suit a variety of different situations. If you are new, you will probably want to start with a managed language like C# that features automatic garbage collecting, etc. You could definitely start programming with other languages like C++, but it is likely that you will make many mistakes, and will be unable to comprehend why they occur until you take the time to understand the very basics of computing.

Learn assembly if you want to write hacks. If you learn assembly you will know how a computer computes. And to find specific memory addresses get yourself a debugger like ollydbg

IMO Starting out by learning Assembly will be quite difficult. I would say skip past VB.Net also as it's pretty much useless today unless you just really like VB syntax ... The .Net framework has really made things so much easier for programmers today and C# is much more popular than VB.Net. You could start out learning C++, but it will be much more difficult than starting out with .Net and C#.

I would say a good path to take is get Visual Studio 2010 Express, install it, create a new C# Windows Application and look up a beginner's tutorial. (Microsoft even has some great tutorial series' for beginners)

From there move into learning how memory is managed within Windows and how you can work with it. You can find plenty of getting started tutorials on this site such as the one that DarkLinux posted above. It's a great post and will get you started in the right direction.

Having said all that, I don't hack so this may not be the best advice, but I do program ... Hey you can also get a job doing this and make money, lots of money hah!

i'd recommend C#.. try making an "hello world" program.. first in console application. then in a windows forms application.. (visual studio express 2010)

in forms app - then try making variations of hello world.. a button, click --> label that says hello world.. and textboxes --> button --> label(textbox).. then try making them in methods..

from there, u'd probably find something u want to try..
something like that..
