Not many people know it exists, but there is PHP-GTK. Being the nature of PHP its not really the best for using as a main windows or linux based server program, but still quite possible. I toyed around with making an Ultima Online emulator with server admin tools built right into the server. Ran decently, but no longer have the files. Just tossing it out there since few know it though. Suggest getting gnope GUI Development with PHP-GTK2 - User Interfaces to go along with it. If any interest arises out of this I'll start posting some tutorials to get people started with it.

The problem: php runs very slow.

I found those Gui things, another is called winbinder or something like that. However, I would recomend other programming languages to use GUI development for 2 simple reason. First as i said already php is extremly slow, Second php is opensource an need an php.exe beside it to run the entire code.

you may can compile the code to run it faster... but those compilers are very expensive.
