Thats how it works ? well that sucks big time thats for sure..

as soon as you leave the game the rift is closed (unless someone remains in the game)
I wouldnt worry too much though, its very fast and simple to get more keystones to open new rifts

(Multiplayer is the way to go if you have bad/unstable internet)

Altho it's bad it's no problem to get new crystals. When I was first time in the rift and died, I couldn't ress myself (bug) so I exit the Diablo and had to do it again
