they should have posted what little legendary data they had so we can at least guess how it's affected by mf
if is treated the same, that would mean there's a max mf point where it actually lowers the number of rares and raises the chance of legendary? or they both eat into the magical item rate? or mf doesn't affect lengendary?

It does affect it. See it like this. A mob dies, now the system calculates the number of loots, if it says 1 rare 1 blue 2 white it will drop for you. IF you're wearing a high amount of magic find, the system decides which items will "upgrade". So you have a chance that the whites turn into blue/rare/legendary or the blues into rares..nobody knows how it changes it, but it does

i heard the exact opposite... MF does not effect legendary as the item names of legendary items are unique. white/blue/yellow share the item names...

It should be hard to proove which theory is correct. It would require a HUGE database analysis witth massive legendary finds. And I guess noone found enough legendarys with & without MF to make a significant statement. I can just say that my friends and me found more legendaries while wearing MF gear (mostly in clouds in pony or while looting corpses, chests and trash 'boxes' at the very beginning of the game when you just hit level 60 and couldn't get out of act 1)
