Blizzcon Drama
So if you haven't heard the Blizzcon tickets for 2019 will be done 100% through a mobile app called AXS. Once this news was announced a reddit post by u/udeathcoil stated
"Took a glance at the AXS App permissions.. It's.. bad. Spyware level bad. "

- Camera
- Wi-Fi connection information
- Other
This caused a major outrage by the community for obvious reasons because this was a huge breach of trust from Blizzard. It apparently also has access to Adjust System Settings which gives permission to turn on GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, etc. A Blizzard employee on reddit points out that in the post about the app Blizzard says
'If for some reason you find yourself at the show with a dead mobile device or some other unexpected issue preventing you from accessing the app, don’t worry. Just head to the Solutions Desk at registration and they’ll help you out."
Fast forward to today when a new post came out by reddit user u/__versus. claiming a ton of misinformation in this latest controversy. Versus goes on to say that the permissions list
"is only ever present on the web version of the play store and does not reflect the permissions of the application once it's been downloaded, nor does it reflect the permissions listed on the app version of the play store or the permissions listed in the application manifest. I still don't know why the web version displays different permissions. "
In conclusion it seems that the original thread about all the stuff it asks of you might have been blown out of proportion but at the same time people have the right to know what the app they will be REQUIRED to use for Blizzcon does to the fullest extent. It just may be that it won't do all these things and will simply be a QR code reader if that is all we want it to do. Part of me feels like a lot of the anger from the original thread comes from just the trend of being mad at Blizzard in 2019. Seems almost easy to cause a commotion with anti Blizzard stuff these days which is sad but at the same time they put themselves here for the most part.
Valve Index
The internally created VR named Valve Index is able to be pre-ordered. Right now that pre-order is a 'reserve" because the new VR sold out in under 30 minutes. For the headset alone you pay $499 and the full bundle including controllers and Steam VR 2.0 base stations costs $999. Some information about the VR headphones is:
- Two 1440x1600 LCD Displays. RGB Stripe which = more subpixels
- 144hz Display
- Controllers and headset are backwards compatible
- Dual microphone array
All in all this is definitely going to be the top VR on the market in 2019 if you can get your hands on it and honestly I personally love Valve being on the top.
Classic News and Class Guide
Any time you see a Classic WoW blue post it is a good day. This one might be a reply and not packed with vital information like 'will there be cross realm bg's?' or 'will there be blizzard faction change options?' but what we do get is some information about character limits. Kaivax posted "In WoW Classic you'll have the following character limits per WoW account:
- A maximum of 10 characters per WoW Classic realm
- A maximum of 50 characters across all of the WoW Classic realms in your region
- Only one faction per realm on PvP realms
- No overlap or regard with the character limits in Battle for Azeroth
What we can gather from this is that you can play both factions on PvE realms which is a surprise but at the end of the day PvE realms don't count in Classic hehe and we get a maximum of 10 characters per realm which is 1 up from the original 9 in actual vanilla. What information we didn't get was stuff about RP-PVP realms.
Also in Classic news I wrote a huge guide to help everybody with picking their class in Classic WoW. It is great for the uninformed, the mildly informed, or just anybody really who wants to learn more. I did a lot of research on each class over the last 2-3 months and not only do I feel like my grasp on each class has increased ten-fold but I link a ton of sources with videos that you can also watch and learn.
