
Patch 1.6 brings 2 new items to the game along with a lot of bug fixes, streamlining and polish to the Multiplayer side of the game. Without further delay, I have scoured the changelog to bring you the main parts of this patch!
Nether added to multiplayer
The Nether has finally been officially added into to the official Server suite. This is a milestone step as previously the nether was only available to other server suites e.g Bukkit via a pseudo nether world. To reach the nether, One must create a portal like so:

New Item: Map
In an infinite world, finding your way back to a point in the world can be very difficult, until now. The map is a unique item that charts the world around you when you have it equipped, allowing you to find that dungeon you were to afraid to explore as you had no food left! These maps can be traded between players in multiplayer and still retain all the regions you have explored. Notch has hopes to eventually make them wall mountable to show off your cartography skills! To make one, you will need 8 paper and a compass:

New Item: Trapdoor
Trapdoor are insipred from Djoslin's Trapdoor mod (TrapDoor). They are a 1x1 tile that acts as a vertical door for space saving. Not much else to say about this one, a nifty tool for the space-saving spirit within you! To craft it you will need 6 wooden planks, yielding 2 Trapdoors.

Tall Grass and changes to Hoes
Grass in certain biomes will now grow extra tall! this adds a little texture to the endless swathes of flat green grass you usually see. Seeds will no longer drop from grass blocks when a hoe is used on them, however Tall grass will. It will be interesting to see how this works out as now some biomes players will not have the ability to obtain seeds from.

Mushroom farmers unite!: Mushroom Propagation
Mushrooms can now finally be farmed, albeit slowly, with the introduction of propagation of mushrooms. There is a very low chance that a planted mushroom will sprout another one nearby to give it some company!

SMASH DEM BUGS!
Notch has been hard at work ironing out the bugs for a smoother experience. Some bugs we may be glad to see gone, but others we cry ourselves to sleep due to their removal. The major game-changing bug fixes are below:
- Fire spread speed lowered and has a limit to size
- Arrows now travel through non-solid blocks (e.g reeds) correctly now.
- Fixed boats rising to the surface at high speed (No more raft water lifts)
- Fixed fire burning through concave corners (No more 100% efficient lava mob grinders)
- Placing cacti next to doors no longer creates half-doors (No more fancy windows)
- Fixed minecarts next to each other causing extreme velocities (no more manual minecart boosters)
- Fixed animals only spawning near light during the night
