We've covered the Xbox One quite a bit here on OwnedCore. Today I wanted to look back and see why the Xbox One got such negative feedback. In order to do that, we have to look at the launch decisions Sony and Microsoft made for their consoles.
The Xbox One was announced with a lot of information. Considering that most of this information was received negatively by the gaming audience, the decision to tell us about a few of their new functions in detail was probably an incorrect one. If we compare it to the Sony Playstation 4 we see that the PS4's 'don't show, don't tell' approach might have been the better move.
Currently nobody has had hands on the Xbox One yet so any opiniated news that has been posted was simply a reflection of how a writer or website might have looked at the information Microsoft released about their console. That, combined with the horrible exterior of the new Xbox*, does not make the gaming audience more excited about the Xbox 360's successor.
So what can we expect from the new consoles? Better hardware, easier access to media like Netflix and Spotify, and an awesome instant-on function. In a few weeks/months we'll know more about these consoles and we'll be able to judge the consoles by the information we then have. For now, we'll keep gaming!
