With this Guide, you will be able to host an Epicly Awesome and Huge Race and make a decent amount of money doing it. I usually don't charge money to enter, but just do this for fun, and still give the winner like 250g or something.
(This may be a little hard to manage, but after a few times of doing this it will be pretty simple)
This is my first guide, and I hope you guys like it
What you need
- Around 4 or 5 people to help you, whether it be friends or guildmates
- Ability to make sure no one is cheating
- Rules to give to participants
Step 1
With your group of 4 or 5 people helping you already in a raid group, and with the ability to invite someone to a raid group do the following.
Have a macro that says something like this in Trade channel or the channel of your choosing.
"Whisper me if you want to join in on an Epic Race! If you win the race you win 500 Gold!"
(You can set the winning values if you would like)
For an easy response to the people that whisper you for details go AFK, with your message saying the rules, and some basic info on the race.
"In this race, you will go on an epic journey across Kalimdor, From the very bottom of Tanaris to the very top of Teldrassil. There is only one rule no speed buffs, at all. If you are seriously interested whisper 'blah, blah, blah, blah or blah' The entry fee will be 50g"
Step 2
With a full group of people, repeatedly say in the raid channel the rules until you have enough people to your liking. Also tell the contestants to review their map to make sure they know where they are going.
Step 3
Have all of your contestants meet in Uldum, Tanaris.
At this time make sure to station your helpers in their places. (Explained later)
Step 4
Tell the contestants that they must /wave at all 4 or 5 of the helpers to win, if they skip one they will be disqualified.
You, the person in charge, will be in Uldum with them waiting to give them the mark to go.
You will be following them the whole race, making sure they don't cheat by having on Pally speed buff, or the DK speed buff, and especially not using a flight master.
You can easily monitor this using any type of Raid Unit-Frames, that monitors the buffs of each person.
Step 5
Start the race and make sure to make everyone interact by chatting with the contestants and have a good time.
The Suggested Route of the race should be as follows.
(From Explained Later)
Each checkpoint stop is where the contestants will /wave to your helpers, this eliminates the possibility of somebody flying off somewhere.
Waiting for a long time will definitely bore your helpers, but there are a few things to entertain them.
Such as an addon like Bejeweled or Peggle or some other in-game Mini Game.
You can also tell your helpers they can join in on the race after everyone has waved to them.
As you can see this might take awhile, but it should be fun visiting a lot of the WoW world again.
Step 6
Finish.
This is very hard to decide who actually wins.
A favorite method of mine is to have the first person to duel the person at the finish to win. This is because while the /wave range is fairly large, the Duel range is quite small.
Now you can distribute the gold to the winner.
If you have 35 people join each of you and your helpers will get around 250g or so if the entrance fee was 50g and if you pay the winner 500g.
As I have said before you can change the amounts around.
If you had fun doing this, make it a weekly tradition for your server!
