How To: Catch All Known Fishing Mini-Pets and Mounts
Woot for meh first post evar. Anyway, lets get started.
[DISCLAIMER]: Catching these rare fishing Mini-Pets and Mounts can take an EXTREME amount of luck. You may get one on your first try, or you may still be at 10k casts and you ain't caught squat. Please don't fish for very extended periods at a time, You might get hurt (We don't want any Carpel Tunnel now do we...).

Equipment:
Another Key to successful Fishing, is no junk. You can accomplish this with good fishing gear. For example, Fishing in Wintergrasp with only level 1 Fishing, will give you only junk. Fishing in with a maxed skill of 450 PLUS Gear and potion/food/consumables totaling 575 fishing, will yield absolutely no junk whatsoever.
List of Gear
HEAD: Lucky Fishing Hat (+5 Fishing) Obtained from the quest during the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza: Rare Fish - Keefer's Angelfish
or Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat (+5 Fishing) rare reward from the Dalaran and Shattrath Fishing Dailys.
FEET: Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots (+5) These boots are from the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. You don't have to win, just get the Brownell's Blue Striped Racer and submit it to the Robot on the docks. The actual quest name is Rare Fish - Brownell's Blue Striped Racer.
HANDS: Enchant Gloves - Fishing (+2). This enchant is occasionally dropped by Murlocks in Hillsbrad (Aprox. 1.5% - 1% drop rate).
LINE: Spun Truesilver Fishing Line (+3) obtained through the Shattrath Fishing Dailys or High Test Eternium Fishing Line (+5) from the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. These Fishing Lines aren't totally required, however they are somewhat helpful aside from the fact that they can be a pain in the ass to obtain.
LURES: Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (+100) which can be obtained from I think every fishing vendor or from an engineer who is willing to make a few. Otherwise, I would probably get a Lesser Vendor Bought Lure such as Shiny Baubles. Shiny Baubles don't have a limited amount that you can buy, so they're great for extra long fishing trips.
POLE: Arcanite Fishing Pole (+40) From the Stranglethorn Fishing Contest or Bone Fishing Pole From the Dalaran Fishing Dailys or (+30) Jeweled Fishing Pole (+30) Also From the Dalaran Fishing Dailys. If you do not have access to one of the "Superior" poles, I would recommend maybe getting Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 (Horde) from the quest Snapjaws, Mon in The Hinterlands or Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole (Alliance) from the quest Rather Be Fishin' In Shattrath. Both of these poles are easy enough to get (Especially at level 80).
Useful Add-ons:
Fishing Buddy : Keeps track of leveling and catches statistically. Auto-Lure and quick outfit change.
Fishing Ace : Same as above, just lighter.
FishermansFriend : Fishing Sound Enhancements, Auto Lure, and EZ casting.
Section 1: The Sea Turtle Mount
Summary: This infamous guy, is one of the Harder Pets/Mounts that you can catch. A Sea Turtle is very rare and can be caught from any pool in Northrend. This turtle can be mounted, and ridden. Over water the Sea Turtle gives a 60% increase in speed. It runs at normal speed on land. Also Related to the Achievement Turtles All The Way Down.
Image:
Strategies: The Catch rate on this Mount is estimated between 1/2000 and 1/5000. You may catch it on your first cast, however, expect to be power fishing for a couple days before you expect your Mount. Mathematically speaking, if you catch around 4-5 catches per minute going between pools, it could take around 20 hours of fishing. Ok, Let's cut to the chase.
Expect to spend at least half of your time traveling between pools. Getting an Epic Flyer is definitely HIGHLY recommended, However, any flying mount does fine (just expect to be spending more time in the air). I would also definitely recommend the Find Fish ability. If you do not have it, I will explain it later on. You can reduce the time spent flying by fishing in areas where pools are close together. An example, would be in The Frozen Sea, East of Unu'pe. Fly around the 4-5 Icebergs looking for pools, then flying down to fish them. Using some sort of Water-Walking potion or spell would also help as well so that you can land on the water as well.
Each pool has a finite number of fish, so every 3-5 catches (when the pool disappears) you will need to move on and find a new pool to fish. Avoid sharing pools with other players: the pool will just be emptied faster, and you will be wasting time. When looting the Turtle, there is no confirmation dialogue and it is Bound on Fish.
Places:
Pool | No-junk skill | Areas | Catch Rate | Commonly caught fish
Borean Man O' War School - Coastal | 475 | Borean Tundra | Infrequent Catch | Borean Man O' War
Deep Sea Monsterbelly School - Coastal | 575 | The Frozen Sea | Infrequent Catch | Deep Sea Monsterbelly
Dragonfin Angelfish School - Inland | 475 | Dragonblight | Infrequent Catch | Dragonfin Angelfish
Fangtooth Herring School - Inland | 475 | Howling Fjord | Infrequent Catch | Fangtooth Herring
Glacial Salmon School - Inland | 475 | Grizzly Hills | Infrequent Catch | Glacial Salmon
Glassfin Minnow School - Inland | 500 | Crystalsong Forest | Infrequent Catch | Glassfin Minnow
Moonglow Cuttlefish School - Coastal | 575 | The Frozen Sea | Infrequent Catch | Moonglow Cuttlefish

Remember, The Sea Turtle Can ONLY be caught from Northrend Pools.
Section 2: Dalaran Daily Fishing Quests
Summary:
These 5 daily quests are available for people with fishing in Dalaran. The personal level required to accept the quests is unconfirmed, but believed to be level 70 (It would be awesome if someone could confirm ). Quests are available at fishing skill 1. But at low skill, almost everything you catch will be junk. The effective fishing skill required to fish without junk is shown with each quest later. Each daily quest starts from Marcia Chase (Fishing Trainer), by the fountain in Dalaran. These are quest fish, so obviously they cannot be caught while in a raid group. Once you have the required amount of quest fish, you will not be able to catch extra quest fish. If your skill is high enough, you should catch the fish you need within about 20 casts. The 5 quests are described below.
Marcia Chase:
Daily Quests:
Blood Is Thicker
What to catch: 5 Bloodtooth Frenzies.
Where to catch it: Kill a beast in Borean Tundra. This will give a 3 minute debuff called "Animal Blood". Now jump into an open area of water. A Pool of Blood will appear, which you fish like any other pool. 1-3 Bloodtooth Frenzy will be caught from each cast.
Skill required: 475 to fish without junk.
The Ghostfish
What to catch: Phantom Ghostfish. Once you catch the fish, eat it within 1 minute. You will turn invisible, and start seeing things...
Where to catch it: Sholazar Basin (open water or Nettlefish School). The quest states River's Heart, but any water in Sholazar Basin seems to complete the quest.
Skill required: 525 to fish without junk.
Eating the fish causes the quest objective to complete.
Dangerously Delicious
What to catch: 10 Terrorfish.
Where to catch it: Wintergrasp. Approximately half of all catches will have a Terrorfish attached.
Skill required: 525 to fish without junk.
Wintergrasp is a contested zone. Fishing in Wintergrasp is indeed dangerous! Fish in-between battles to avoid most enemies. Battles occur about every 3 hours and last up to 30 minutes. The timer can be seen on the map or Battleground panel. Your faction doesn't need to be in control of Wintergrasp to complete this quest.
Jewel Of The Sewers
What to catch: Corroded Jewelry.
Where to catch it: Dalaran's Underbelly (sewers).
Skill required: 525 to fish without junk.
Make sure that you are fishing in the Underbelly (the sewers), and not other parts of Dalaran.
Monsterbelly Appetite
What to catch: Bloated Monsterbelly. This contains a Severed Arm, which must be delivered to Olisarra the Kind (First Aid Trainer in Dalaran).
Where to catch it: The Frozen Sea (open water or Deep Sea Monsterbelly School).
Skill required: 575 to fish without junk.
The nearest part of The Frozen Sea to Dalaran is just to the south of Dragonblight. There are only a few places to stand, unless you can walk on water. Make sure your bobber lands in the area called "The Frozen Sea". The chance of catching a Bloated Monsterbelly seems to be higher from Deep Sea Monsterbelly School, however you will probably need to travel a lot further to find a school.

Section 3: The Strand Crawler
Summary:
The Strand Crawler is a rare Mini-pet that can only be obtained from the Dalaran Fishing Daily Quests (Explained Above). He has an approximate drop rate of around 1%. Finding him is all about luck, you may get him on your first Daily Bag, or you will never get him at all. Whilst standing still, the crawler blows tiny bubbles. When he moves, he makes a clacking sound (as all other crawlers do as well). His species is undetermined, however, some think he may be from the rare Ghostcrawler species.
The Strand Crawler:
Section 4: The Giant Sewer Rat
Summary:
Once caught, the Giant Sewer Rat will follow you as a minipet (non-combat pet). The rat is pretty large: Almost as large as a Gnome (Lawls). The pet Binds on Fish when caught. Catching the Giant Sewer Rat also awards the achievement, I Smell A Giant Rat. This is a somewhat rare catch: I caught almost 970 fish, My friend caught 300, another person caught the Giant Sewer Rat after just around 5 catches, and others are still trying...
Giant Sewer Rat:
SEWER RAT FISH RATE (EXAMPLE)
Dalaran, Cantrips & Crows: 968 catches
Sewer Carp: 54,6%
Magic Eater: 25,2%
Empty Vial: 6,5%
Drowned Rat: 5,9%
Partially Eaten Fish: 4,5%
Leaded Vial: 1,9%
Crystal Vial: 0,8%
Enchanted Vial: 0,3%
Imbued Vial: <0,1%
Giant Sewer Rat: <0,1%
WHERE:
You can fish for the Giant Sewer Rat in the Underbelly of Dalaran. Any fishable water works down there, however, reportedly the Cantrips and Crows docks has a higher drop rate.
Cantrips and Crows:
Section 5: Mr. Pinchy
Summary:
As with the Sea Turtle Mount (First Section), you will be flying between pools. A flying mount is actually needed in order to get up to the lakes in which you must fish in. The ability to find fish schools very helpful (explained later on). The approximate catch rate of Mr. Pinchy, is around 0.2%. When you catch Mr. Pinchy you will get 3 wishes. 1 wish every 2 days (2 day cool down). Mr. Pinchies are not unique so you CAN have more than one in your inventory. But, All Mr. Pinchy items share the same cool down, so only one can be used every 2 days.
Possible Wishes:
Benevolent Mr. Pinchy: Summons a non-elite guardian which assists you in battle. 10 minute duration.
Mr. Pinchy's Gift: Up to 5 Super Healing Potions and 5 Super Mana Potions.
Magical Crawdad Box: Contains a Magical Crawdad non-combat pet.
Mr. Pinchy's Blessing: Health increased by 500. This effect persists through death and is considered a flask. 2 hour duration.
Furious Mr. Pinchy: Non-elite attacks you and your party. Furious Mr. Pinchy has 5560 HP and is killed quite easily. Furious Mr. Pinchy's corpse can't be looted either.
Magical Crawdad Box Mini-Pet:
Places:
Mr. Pinchy is an pretty rare catch from Highland Mixed Schools in Outland. These Pools are specifically located in three pools in Terokkar Forest. All these lakes are elevated and reachable only with a Flying Mount.
Three Lakes:
Blackwind Lake (near Skettis) - 10 pool spawn locations (2 on the western side of the island in the lake, 8 around the edge of the lake).
Lake Ere'Noru (near Allerian Stronghold) - 4 pool spawn locations.
Lake Jorune (near Stonebreaker Hold) - 3 pool spawn locations.
Three Lakes:
Strategy:
A good search strategy will help. Start in the lake with the most pools (Blackwind Lake) because the chance of a pool spawning here is more than twice the other lakes. This is also the only lake surrounded by monsters.
Once you have fished a pool empty, you'll know not to check that location for at least another 30-40 minutes, probably longer. That alters the search pattern, since you now have a smaller set of possible spawning locations to watch. In some cases, you can sometimes fish all three or four pools in the smaller lakes quickly, which removes the need to check that lake completely for a certain period of time. Your effective fishing skill should be at least 500 or above. Under 500, some of your catches will be junk items. Junk catches do not reduce the number of fish in the pool, they just slow down the speed at which you catch the fish you want. Blackwind Lake is surrounded by level 70-ish monsters, so combat may be involved. Those able to walk on water (Priests, Shamans, DKs) will be able to avoid monsters and fish in the harder to reach pools.
Section 6: Outland Daily Fishing Quests
Summary:
Theses daily quests provide a small amount of money and a chance to gain some rare items. Some will help you fish. Daily fishing quests can often be completed in around 10-15 minutes if your fast. Having an Epic Flying mount is helpful in getting around. These Daily quests can be repeated only once every day. There are 5 different daily fishing quests. Only one random quest will be available each day. You don't get a choice. All the daily fishing quests start and finish at Old Man Barlo, pictured below. He is found on the west side of Silmyr Lake, which is just north-east of Shattrath City. There is no minimum fishing skill required to accept the daily fishing quests. Fishing skill 1 will allow at least the Crocolisks in the City quests to be accepted and completed. Not all catches are this simple. The skill required to fish without junk is listed below by quest. The most difficult catches require an effective fishing skill of around 490 to stop junk. All quest fish are caught from open inland water - NOT POOLS. With the exception of Shrimpin' Ain't Easy, all the quests require a single fish to be caught. Expect the quest fish to bite within a couple casts.
Old Man Barlno:
Daily Quests:
Bait Bandits
What to catch: Blackfin Darter.
Where to catch it: Terokkar Forest.
Skill required: 450 for no junk.
Blackfin Darter can be caught from the open water between Tuurem, Firewing Point and Allerian Stronghold, including water within Allerian Stronghold. Although the quest description says "avoid the lakes", Blackfin Darter can also be caught from Blackwind Valley, Cenarion Thicket, and the small lake next to the east entrance to Shattrath City. The two locations closest to the quest-giver are Cenarion Thicket and the small lake next to the east entrance to Shattrath City. These fish Cannot be caught from Silmyr Lake or the elevated lakes where Highland Mixed Schools and Mr. Pinchy are found - Blackwind Lake, Lake Ere'Noru and Lake Jorune.
Crocolisks in the City
What to catch: Baby Crocolisk.
Where to catch it: Stormwind City, Orgrimmar ...and Ironforge.
Skill required: 75 to avoid junk. (Obtainable at level 1 fishing).
The Baby Crocolisk can be caught in any part of Stormwind - even the Park or Valley of Heroes (entrance). Ironforge is not listed in the quest description, but the Baby Crocolisk can be caught there.
Felblood Fillet
What to catch: Monstrous Felblood Snapper.
Where to catch it: Hellfire Peninsula.
Skill required: 375 to evade junk.
Only the Pools of Aggonar can be fished in Hellfire Peninsula.
The One That Got Away
What to catch: World's Largest Mudfish.
Where to catch it: Nagrand (Lake Sunspring and Skysong Lake only).
Skill required: 490 to avoid junk.
The World's Largest Mudfish is only known to be caught from open water in Lake Sunspring and Skysong Lake in Nagrand. Other lakes in Nagrand with slightly lower skill requirements do not seem to contain the fish.
The closest lake to the quest-giver is Skysong Lake. Take care to ensure your bobber lands on water where the name of the location shows as "Skysong Lake".
Shrimpin' Ain't Easy
What to catch: Bloated Barbed Gill Trout, until you have 10 Giant Freshwater Shrimps.
Where to catch it: Zangarmarsh.
Skill required: 400 to avoid junk (in the eastern lakes of Zangarmarsh).
Bloated Barbed Gill Trout can be caught from any open water in Zangarmarsh, however the southern side of Umbrafen Lake is both the closest to the quest-giver, and has the lowest skill requirement. Bloated Barbed Gill Trout contain 1-2 Giant Freshwater Shrimps, until you have 10 Giant Freshwater Shrimps in your inventory. If you catch many Bloated Barbed Gill Trout (and don't open them), you will only find Giant Freshwater Shrimps while you have less than 10 in your inventory. Bloated Barbed Gill Trout are soulbound and only stay fresh for 2 hours (like Speckled Tastyfish). This means that you cannot stock up on Bloated Barbed Gill Trout or Giant Freshwater Shrimps in preparation for a later quest. Completing this Daily should take around 10 casts (Approx. 70% drop rate for Bloated Barbed Gill Trout).

Section 7: The Bucket Pets
Summary:
There are four different Bucket Pets. They pet can only be obtained by completing the daily quest, Crocolisks in the City. These Mini-Pets cannot be sold for gold. Each Baby Crocolisk differs slightly by different shades of green. The drop rate for each Bucket Pet has been significantly increased from about 2% to around 40%. This makes these pets MUCH easier to get although also not as rare. They are Bound when Found and make cute noises when clicked .

Section 8: Weather-Beaten Journal
Summary:
The Weather-Beaten Journal teaches the ability Find Fish, which makes nearby fishing nodes display on the Mini-Map - just like tracking abilities for minerals and herbs. The journal is BoP and can't be traded with another person. If you have already caught the Journal, you won't be able to find it again. A minimum fishing skill of 100 is required to learn the ability. The journal can be found in many fished-up crates and trunks, specifically Curious Crate, Heavy Supply Crate, Iron Bound Trunk, Mithril Bound Trunk, Watertight Trunk, and Tightly Sealed Trunk.
Where:
You should fish the pools of wreckage in Azeroth containing Iron Bound, Mithril Bound or Watertight Trunks. The easiest source of journals are in Watertight Trunks, which are found in wreckage pools in Ashenvale, Hillsbrad Foothills, Stonetalon Mountains and Wetlands. These areas require just 55 skill to cast, 150 to avoid junk. There is about a 1/5 chance that a Watertight Trunk will contain a journal. Weather-Beaten Journals are not all that rare and can be caught easily.
Where to Fish:
