Woah, you're kidding me!

If you want to do me a big favour and if you recieve an email and it's this that caused your ban, I'll remove the file so no one else can download it. If you don't get an email, could you petition a GM for me from your account when you get it back? I'd really like to know if it was this that caused the ban.

Sure thing. Since I didn't receive any E-mail about the suspension (which is quite odd >.>) I requested an E-mail from them and mentioned "the PC Authenticator from MMOwned" (I doubt it'll be hard for them to find it)
A little note: You should really ask Blizzard before you publish such software.. Great idea tho!

hmm..i associated this authenticator with one of my smaller accounts,worked great one time,and then after 2 hours and areboot,no matter what i do,i just cant log in.i tried the to restore from a server side back up but didnt help at all..any ideas?

Servers are down for maintenance in EU.

I successfuly registered authenticator but never got core hound pet. Have I missed anything ?

I made a very similar authenticator for personal use and EU like a week before you posted this, coincidential. :>

While it is possible that they would know about this, I wouldn't think they would mind people using it seeing as it makes their jobs easier. And the Authenticator app for the iPhone is free... Hmm...

Pretty confident they do know. The iPhone authenticator grabs the serial from Blizzard's servers when you first run it, and probably registers it too, so it doesn't get handed out twice. (duplicate keygen, and stuff)

Also, the main reason they wouldn't like these applications is not because they're free. Yes, Blizzard are money-hungry corporate *******s, but in the long run, they made these authenticators for devices that you would personally carry around, and chances would be very small for someone else to carry your phone around, or use the authenticator on your keyring while also knowing your login details.
However, your PC is different. It's static. It can share files. It has an XML which instructs the executable how to generate perfect keys. Long story short, this allows for example a group of friends who share an account to all have the same authenticator, while Blizzard's aim with the authenticators was to make them all unique, and exclusive to its owner, and thus account owner.

Oh Jesus H Christ... What's wrong with Blizzard nowdays!? It has been over 20h since I sent them an E-mail about why I got a 24h ban. I didn't even receive an E-mail when I got banned >.> GG Blizz

I haven't got any E-mails yet. BUT! The 24h suspension is over and I've posted a ticket to a GM.
When I logged in my Core Hound Pup was gone so I'm afraid this was the cause of the ban :<

Hi! This is my first post here.

I have been following this thread for 3 days. Sad to see you are having problems. For what I have seen in Blizz forums, they do know of "PC Authenticators" they don't condone the idea but they don't seem condemn it either. But who knows.

I recently bought my nephew's his first WoW account for his bday, with the recruit a friend program. Just when the 10 day trial was over (and the game time actually started to count) It seems he was hacked. Stragiht from the bat, now he has an authenticator attached to the account preventing him from playin. I wrote to blizz monday and still havn't gotten an aswer, when they are normally a 24-h response team. Something is up there.

Anyways now he's losing paid time, and I still don't get an aswer. I surely hope this kind of pc authenticators are no reason to ban accounts since they can also help (not in the same way tho) as the phisical one. I don't really want to scan and try to combat every little virus my nephew has on his pc so I thought this as an alternative, hope you hear from blizz soon. I do too so they take an action on my nephews account.

Can this generate a code from a known serial for a hardware authenticator?

I have three hardware authenticators right now attached to various accounts. I'd like to have a backup in case one of them breaks or is lost. I have the serials written down in a safe place just in case, and it would be nice to have this around if one of the batteries should die or it stops working.

I think it's important to note that your the only person that is having this issue, and although I don't want to say your wrong. I have been doing some research on the Official Wow forums and it doesn't seem like they have an issue with "Emulated Authenticators" at all however they are "Unsupported".

*technically* you can run an authenticator on a PC but it requires fancy emulation plus a lot of loops and it isn't supported at all. Authenticators are supposed to be devices that you have with you in a more physical presence. If you really want to, you can have a family member or something order the keychain, then send it to you.

Now I would also like to point out that Blizzard MUST include in a suspension E-Mail, a reason for the suspension (Trust me I have got PLENTY 3 - 24 hour bans in my day.) They ALWAYS say things like.. Violation of the naming agreement, Suspicious third party software, abuse of public channels, offensive behavior... and the list goes on and on.

Now .. like I said.. I am not here to argue with you, but perhaps you can post a copy of the Email? .. I find it highly irregular you would be given a ban with zero explanation.

From what I see, It appears that although Blizzard doesn't "officially" support an emulated authenticator (This means if you **** it up, they wont help you.) They do not condone it either... You have to remember getting people authenticators makes their job easier. In fact. If you get hacked twice in a row, they will GIVE you an authenticator for free. The rep I spoke to on the phone said the $6 is almost completely for the Key chain/Labor costs.

The program generated me a US serial authentication number although I play in the EU. I attached it to my EU account, I got the pet and everything seems to be working fine. Just wondered if it will cause any future or long term problems? Like if I had to get Billing Support to remove the key, would they mind?

Jadd, you mentionned earlier you didn't know why it was popping an error message while registering the "fake" authenticator. Although you don't know, I think there are reasons to believe THEY DO KNOW. I disabled authenticator after trying it. I don't know if that's why, but my core hound is now gone (1 day after.. not immediately after I disabled). I got no ban though. They might be aware.
