I'm sure most you noticed how when making a model edit, upon saving the file, in game or whatever, you get an error.
Well here's a short list of model editing errors and their solutions (if there are any).
Thanks to A_Snake01 for a few of these tips, from his Compendium of Model Editing.
1. The most common error, the Model Edit Fix.
If you have an edit which changes a part of Character/World/DBFilesClient, you crash when launching..
-Solution: Model Edit Fix.
2. (MPQ) Model edit not working.
In MPQ model changing, you can easily make a mistake by using the wrong treepath or changing the wrong file.
-Solution: Double check your edit for mistakes.
3. (MPQ-DBC) Textures not working - model is completely white.
When your model's changed, but it is entirely white, then simply there's no texture and the client doesn't bother looking for textures.
Can happen both in MPQ and DBC modelchanging.
-Solution: Double check your edit for mistakes.
4. (MPQ-DBC) Green models.
Sometimes when importing a new texture, or using a PTR file, your model turns green and has no textures visible whatsoever.
The client detects texture data, but it cannot be found.
This happens very rarely, but it cannot be dealt with.
-Solution: Delete the model edit, no solution. Or, try a different texture.
5. (DBC) Error with xxx.dbc, expected 32 Columns and got 30.
Never extract a DBC file as CSV because you lose two columns.
-Solution: Re-extract the file in DBC format.
6. (DBC) Cannot save file, data corrupt.
When you make a creature-creature model change, you may often experience this error, the DBC becomes corrupted and is no longer usable. I'm not sure if it happens only with DBC Editor or with all DBC editing programs.
-Solution: Do not delete unneeded textures. Leave them as they are.
7. (DBC) Editing area names, cannot launch WoW.
Sometimes when editing area names in AreaPOI.dbc you can't start up WoW, even with the Model Edit Fix.
-Solution: Use AreaTables.dbc instead.
8. (DBC) Changing maps.
Sometimes when you change maps in DBC, you fall to death.
-Solution: No solution.
9. (WDB) Crash when renaming.
When you rename X to Y, and you have a spare letter, you edit it to a dot, but you crash.
-Solution: Do not edit it directly, edit the code instead, and change the spare letter to 01, 00 causes crashes.
10. (ADT) Fall to death when switching instances.
Usually when you change instance X into instance Y, you will fall to death when zoning in.
-Solution: Edit Offset with Cryects Tools, or fill the ADT with water.
11. (DBC-MPQ) Model change is not solid, but transparent.
We're talking about famous Campfire - X modelchanges. Sometimes your model changes might be completely transparent and simply useless.
-Solution: Find a better non-transparent model to change into.
12. (DBC) Renaming.
When you rename something, for example, Shaman to Elementalist or something, you might not be able to launch WoW with the edit.
-Solution: Double check your edit. Some fields are simply not meant to be changed.
13. Not able to start up DBC Editor.
Sometimes when you first download DBC Editor you might not be able to start it up.
-Solution: Download .net Framework 2.0.
14. Unable to View Models in WoW Model Viewer
-Solution: Download .net Framework 2.0.
I'm done with the list.
Feel free to post more if you know of any or correct me where I am wrong.
