    Re: Model Editing: For Dummies

By the looks of it, you edited something inside Speech.MPQ bad bad bad. Never edit the base MPQ files, ever. Only extract from them.

On the chance that you didn't, check to make sure you didn't delete it.

    Re: Model Editing: For Dummies

so basically you are just extracting the data from the base file then when you are done editing it you pack it and name it something else to the same folder, then move the 'base file' out and rename the edit to look like the base?

I am a complete noob to this and i am just wondering this little tidbit, because the rest I can pretty much figure out.

    Re: Model Editing: For Dummies

perhaps base was the wrong word, as there is a Base.mpq, but open up an MPQ already there,(Patch, Common, Expansion, Locale-EnUS etc) extract file you want from it. Rename it to what you're changing. Repack in an MPQ called SpeechX, Patch-X or Patch-EnUS-X.mpq and run your game.

X is a number between 2 through 9. In the case you're not in america and don't have an EnUS client, the folders will be called EnGB or something, just rename the file to EnGB instead of EnUS if that's the case.

i'm tryin to understand what you're saying. What stumps me is the "repack" part. Any help is appreciated.

repack as in make a new patch or speech or whatever file..

e.g. open MWSC and go to "Pack - Create MPQ Archive" and just name your new MPQ to Patch-2 / 9 or Speech2 / 9 or Patch-EnGB-2/9, then import the folder with the files you have changed and then save and close MWCS and move the patch to your data folder..

    hope that helps

    Re: Model Editing: For Dummies

so all you are doing is just adding a file that is going to act as a patch?

So basically i am doing the same thing that all us model editors were doing before 2.0.1? I am not doing models, i'm doing instance swapping, so that makes things easier with the m2 stuff. Also, is there any DBC editor out there that works?

Yup, you are doing the exact same way, except, dont click the .m2's just extract the folder with the .m2 you want to change, and from there you do the same way..

I have'nt tried any instance swapps yet, so i dont know if my DBC editor i have now still works, should do tho.. cant remember where i got mine from tho.. www.google.com is your friend

This doesn't work for me. I've been trying to change lootfx.m2 since the patch went live and the only thing i've managed to achieve is eother have the default, or none. I've extracted the entire 'particles' folder, swapped over the lootfx.m2 and recompiled it as speech2.MPQ. this results in NO loot effect whatsoever. what am i doing wrong?!..i just dont get it anymore
