Been reading through this post but it still brings up a couple of questions.
I've been tolled that Blizzard uses a program which can detect such edits and it would plain ban people when caught. Meaning that there is no GM to come along saying "Ey we found a mod in your WoW database.. mind explaining that?" meaning that you get no warning?
The only way such a program can detect model edits would be because it spots an extra patch called patch-X.MPQ (or whatever) along the other standard Blizz patches. Now what would happen if you would implement your mods within a standard Blizz patch? Wouldn't that solve the whole being detected problem?
I read something regarding scan.dl and a program which can bypass this, can someone inform me further on this or direct me to a topic were there is more info on this subject and how to use it?
Other then that great post!
Modifying blizzards MPQ's will corrupt them and screw your files. I suggest you don't try it. Also, Warden doesn't scan your hard drive as such, it compares your open processes to a list of hash's compiled by blizzard. It exists to catch third party programs used for botting etc. There's a post about it here somewhere.. Anyway, your MPQ's aren't open in a process so Warden can't scan it, and even if they were, Warden doesn't scan the contents of a program as it's a breach of privacy. If Blizzard could detect this, everyone here would have been banned as soon as they hit login.
Hmm I see, however most mods require WoWME. Which you boot up prior before WoW to change any modifications. Basicly you only run this mod once after a fix and then just continue starting up WoW without right?
It pretty much just prevents wow from crashing with corruption errors on load. You hit F8 to unload the DLL and close wowme completely so there's no open process when you're playing.
Atleast thats my understanding? Not exactly a programmer.
Ty for info ;D
If I model edit for a specific purpose... for a set period of time, am I only vulnerable for that timeframe? Ex.
Say im using an editor to remove a wall to get to a boss faster (by myself in my own private instance). I get what I need and delete the edit and delete WoWme. Assuming there is no reason to be suspicious of anything and I don't tell anyone... am I in the clear afterwards? Or do they look up history from ages ago?
I think blizzard knows, that totally making model edits unavailable will make alot of people enjoy the game less.
Therefore, in the end they might just end up losing money on it. But on the other hand, they need to do "something, sometimes", so that it looks like they'r working on it.
-This is, ofcourse, as long as you don't exploit with it. I'm talking about gear changes ect.
That's what i think atleast
I'm to feared to use model edits or skins edits on the official server. I just talked to a GM about that (about some other problems before). He told me, that they can or even will detect you and will ban you.
I will stay with the fact to use them on Private Servers or for testing on my own local WoW Server...but not on the official ones, since I highly doubt, that Blizzard will change the EULA in any way regarding model editing and skin editing...
This is probably going to sound really stupid, but if u use Model Edits,
Arn't they client sided?
I mean, don't you just see them you'reself?
Well explained.
People should read it first and question then.
why will i get banned if i edit those files?
