    3ds/ms3d/lwo/etc to m2 convert?

    Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to convert any of the filetypes listed in the subject header into .m2 files, I've searched for several hours both here, google, and other wow editing websites and have either come up with dead links or editors who are unwilling to reveal their secret.

I have experience with 3d modeling so that isn't an issue, the issue is getting the model into the game - with no .m2 conversion that's not going to happen which is a pity as I was going to use that to make a contribution here. (long time lurker)

Also, some older models I have swapped in the past seem to be unstable - from what i can tell they explode when some animations are performed (emotes especially) and wow then crashes. If I was able to extract the animations of the current model and import them into the edited one in theory that should solve the issue.

Any assistance with either of these problems would be greatly appreciated.

**Edit** I guess I put this in the wrong forum. Sorry. Could a mod kindly move this over to the questions/requests area please?

When swapping, be sure to also swap .skin and .anim files.

Yep I have done that too, packed the anim and skin files that come with the model into the patch MPQ - I've also found if I extract ALL the available skin, anim, and texture files for that model along with the custom ones that the resulting patch is a lot more stable - like it might last a couple of minutes before crashing. If I only include the custom model and associated files it crashes as soon as it loads in or within a couple of seconds. Performing any action that causes the model to "explode" seems to have a 99% chance of crashing - very very rarely it will make it though, even something as simple as mounting.

If I was able to tell which "explodey" animation did what I could probably overwrite them with something that doesn't crash, i.e. mounting animation swapped out for stand animation - means the model will remain in the standing animation while mounting up but at least it won't crash.

Still, the m2 converter is the big one - unless I'm able to get a hold of a program that does this or someone smarter than I could share their knowledge I'm pretty much at a standstill.

The exploding is a bad pointer caused by an anim file not loaded. As it doesn't exist or something.
