MPQ files (model swaps) barely working? - Newbie

Not sure if anyone can help me, I've been trying to get any model swaps to work - and only a selective few work (like a recently posted Moonkin to Etherial). But most do not work at all (no changes, like I didn't even place the MPQ file!)

It's driving me crazy, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I followed the correct instructions, renamed the files to patch- A to Z, or numbers. I even tried with ".MPQ" and ".mpq" (a few years ago this would help, from what I remember). But nothing works. Did they update something with the latest WoW patch that these somehow fail to work?

It however only seem to fail for me, so I'm really clueless. I also read on some posts something about a "model fix", but then people claim that with this version it's not needed at all anymore (and wasn't even needed for 'simple model edits', like im trying). Help!

Thanks for the reply, this still didn't work for me however (I posted a reply in that topic aswell) - same result, shows no model changes.
