Older skin edits and neccesary progs for install

I have two questions:

1. Do older skin edits still work? I have found this great Dark Iron skin edit on your site, but I'm unsure if it still works. So my overall question is: do edits like these still function properly or are on a patch basis?

2. I know this is a highly asked question, but I unfortunately do not know where to go. So would someone kindly direct me to what progs I need to use for skin edits and a guide portraying how to install skin edits would be much appreciated.

You're gonna need to be more specific than that. I imagine texture swaps (.blp swaps) would work with any patch. DBC swaps will usually not work with any new patch because the DBC files get updated a lot, particularly ones that contain creature info.

I think at some point m2+blp combo swaps started requiring .skin swaps in addition, but I pretty much quit the game before I really had to experiment with that. In any case it shouldn't be too difficult to find the right .skin files and swap them. Like I said I'm not too sure about the .skin situation, I'm just going off what I've read on here.

As for editing applications and guides, feel free to check out the modding apps/guides section. For starters you should get MyWarcraftStudio which will allow you to browse, extract and repack files. Using MWS, you can do some basic model and texture swaps (.m2 and .blp respectively).

He used Ladik's mpq editor which is basically the same tool as MWS, though I prefer the latter because it looks cooler.
