    Need help: Texture format

I've occasionally edited some armor skins. In doing so, I found that if I saved a PNG image as RGB format, then converted it into a BLP, it caused the texture to not appear in-game. The only way to get my textures to work was to save them in Indexed format, but unfortunately this tends to look pretty crappy, and I'd like my textures to look less jagged.

Can someone tell me how I'm to get my textures saved and working with an RGB format, or at least one that's smoother than Indexed?

You may want to get a different converter.

Uhm, well, when I was really into texture editing I arose with the problem that I couldn't ever find a conversion program that kept the same quality. In fact, I think my thread is still around, I only posted it like 2 weeks ago. Its pretty hard to get any insight as to how people manage to do their edits so you can emulate them.

What I have managed to unearth, is that if you use .TNG format (I hope you're using photoshop) it maintains its quality quite a bit better than .PNG. .PNG has issues with transparency sometimes, so... Something you might want to experiment with. I don't personally have a working .TNG conversion program (Believe me I tried to find one till I was blue in the face), but what I do have is program that works with .PNG and preserves quality quite a bit better, its simple called Texture Converter.
Okay so, extract the .RAR file somewhere, open it and run "Texture Converter," the one without all the numbers on the end of it. You'll get this neat little window that'll pop up after it sets itself up. It'll do this process every time you use it. Basically how you use this, is you click and drag .BLP files into the window and then it'll pop up in another window. Click "Save As" and choose a format it provides you, .PNG is best for transparency (but still not as good as .TNG.)
Once you're done editing, in the Texture Conversion window, click "Add Image" and then browse to your edited file. Select it, and then hit convert and it'll make a .BLP from the file you selected. I hope this helps. :C

Well, my issue is with the behavior of my textures. I use a converter to turn my PNGs into BLPs, but for some reason these BLPs do not display armor textures if I save them in RGB color format, only in Indexed color format, and that makes it look very jagged. (Somehow, my one custom helm model edit and accompanying texture worked with the texture set to RGB. No idea how the heck I managed that.)

That said, I'll try other converters and come back after the results.

I'm sorry, but I'm not very savvy with this whole business. I'm a novice at best. What am I supposed to change to that?

shift+right-click into the folder, where BLPConverter and the image are, and click open CommandLinePrompt(cmd). Then type the thing stated above.

How strange... when I did that, the resulting BLP file ended up showing a big white splotch, a large strip of white on the bottom, and black space that was also put onto the item texture in-game.

And that other Texture Converter didn't work either, my textures still wind up invisible in-game.

I really don't understand it. I can take an existing texture edit, change it myself, and wind up with a non-working texture.
