New to model editing

Hi i am new to this whole model editing thing and i am not sure how to get started. I looked up the model edit progams and none seem to do what i was looking for or maybe i just didnt notice it. I wish to design an island or an area that i can upload to my game and go chill on maybe duel some friends for fun. So if anyone could help me out with what programs would be best for makeing and island and how i should go about doing it. Maybe a link to a walkthrough if one is up. Thank you for the help!!!
