They updated all the models in the current patch.

And dbc edits don't usually work from patch to patch.

I have the same problem, only ones I found working so far were Etherial and Air Elemental. Both are nice though, but I wish there was a Blood Queen / Alexstraza one (from Tauren Moonkin, I know some people made those here.. but none of them work!).

How do these dbc edits work anyhow? Why is Etherial no DBC edit? And couldn't you make one, of any random model, the way Etherial was made? I am obviously not understanding something here.

dbc edits are made by the DBFilesClient and is way easier to do then a normal edit, i myself can only do moonkin changes through DBC edits , i don't know how to do them the other way, if anyone is so kind to say which things of the moonkin files (.m2, .blp, skins, etc) i should replace to get it work, would be awesome

Ah I see, now I get it. I opened both files, and indeed the Etherial file has all the skin, M2 and ANIM files in a folder called Creature/DruidOwlbear. So it is technically still possible to get all the models, you just have to find all those files for it.

You can manually swap the files yourself. For checking what m2/blps files you need you need modelviewer. Just load the patches from your data folder, browse through the content, and check something that is named owlkin, then press on file > export > export all. That way you got the files for moonkin extracted. Then it's just simple from there, just browse through model viewer again, see which model you want to swap with, copy the treepath and rename your moonkin files accordingly. So for example, you want to swap human.m2 with moonkin.m2 you first extract the moonkin.m2 into patch-Z.mpq folder, then when it's extracted just rename moonkin.m2 to human.m2, do those for the blp/skin etc too.

i know, but the thing is, what do i replace it with?, do i find the matching ones and replace the names with it? Some things from the owlbear one aren't in the skeleton one, like eyeglow.blp and shit, do i just drop those or what?, do i need to replace all the animations? i'm confused so which do i replace exactly?

The only thing that you have to do (I think) is switching M2, BLP and SKIN. But now that I look closer, for some reason there are even animations. I know that models got animations implented on their own, but the way how it looks is that for example the druid moonkin form of tauren got it's own animation file.

Try the following thing, export Druidowlbear.m2 , druidowlbear.skin and druidowlbear blps and rename them to skeleton.m2 , skeleton.skin and skeleton blps. It doesn't matter exactly if you switch eye blp with eye blps, the amount matters. For example, if moonkin use 2 blp files, and skeleton 3 then the swap isn't possible. But if both use 2 blps, you can just rename them without problem. Same with .SKIN and others. Although I am not sure if you need to swap the animations (because I'm really sure animations were implented in the model itself unless they changed it drastically). Just see if the animations are still correct after the swap.

Bedankt [Soul Eater], it goes a bit over my head as I'm quite new with editing them myself - I will have to look and figure out some stuff later.

Vigilastic, I see you got a skeleton from someone, can I ask where you got it from? It's working? Perhaps he has more model swaps (or willing to make one).

Okey so I decided to try a bit of this now. I downloaded a modelviewer (mywarcraftstudio), but when you say "just load the patches" .. what MPQ files do you mean? I tried almost all and it only shows Cataclysm stuff "DruidBearTroll", "DruidWorgen", but no "DruidBearOwl" or any Owl at all! You also say "patches", but I have no MPQ file called patch - only World / Expansion / OldWorld / Sounds .. that kind of stuff.

This is really difficult, apparantly I'm not even sure if MyWarcraftStudio is meant to view models - on tutorials people say I need a "Wowmodelviewer", which I googled for and I found it .. but it freezes on startup! I also found another "Wotlk version" of the same modelviewer but this one also crashes! No word how or why, and fun enough there aren't any other model viewers...

Maybe I'll just make a request topic for this.
