Maya 8.5

Started to use this program, but this is just too much information for me in it...
Heck i cant even add sample image for background.... ----_----
(Trying to make weapons for wow atm)
Would someone link basic guide for this program?
It would be good if it would include guide about that putting sample image on background, how i can make custom models ( not those surface objects which it tends to use) and skinning techniques.

I would be appreciated if someone would help me with this program

Bah.. Video you provided did not include guide picture for background --_--
but over all it shows other stuff which i may need

But i am still looking for help in how to add a background guide image
