Different item textures

I apologize if it's right in front of me or been asked for before.

I remember reading a guide (months back, mind you) about how to create custom items using altering models found in Wow Model Viewer.

FOR EXAMPLE: Looking at Thunderfury in WowMV, there's the standard model, and then a more...dark-blueish model. The guide stated how to find the ID of said texture and how to apply it...for the life of me I can't find it.
