If you have actually modified the pre-existing .mpq like patch.mpq just delete it and update straight from wow 2.0 ... otherwise you can't install 2.4.

If you edited the actual patch.mpq/common.mpq/patch-2.mpq/expansion.mpq then yea a repair would do good, or do as above and delete and then run a full patch.
Otherwise if U got shit like patch-x/patch-7/patch-d etc. then just move them out of the folder while updating

I'm getting this error instalilng the patch

The source data for a patch file could not be located. (Patch: "base\CHARACTER\Skeleton\Female\SkeletonFemale.m2". Output: "CHARACTER\Skeleton\Female\SkeletonFemale.m2".) (CopyPatchConverter::Repack)

and I believe thats in the patch.mpq file, how exactly does deleting and repatching from 2.0 work? please explain

I'm gettin some strange shit too!!!

LOL when I logged in, this is what I saw on my priest!

I'm supposed to be wearing my shadoweave shoulders, robe, and boots, but obviously something is wrong >.<

EDIT: I just deleted my patch.MPQ and ran "Repair.exe" and it sais that WoW was seriously damaged (O Rly? /º+º|) then it proceeded to revert me back to 2.0.0.6080. When it finished, I ran WoW again and logged in, it attempted to download the patch (WoW-2.4.0-enUS-patch.exe) now I'm having to wait for the damn patch to "redownload" and hopefully my WoW will once again work.

I suggest to anyone who tries this, first backup your 2.4 patch then once it tries to download, put it in the WoW folder and just run it. Your game should now be fixx'd ^_^

All the way up to 2.3.3 I have simply been modding by making .mpq files and adding them to the folder with no other added help. Now with 2.4 I pulled the files out of my folder like i always do when I patch the game, but when I put them back in the game no longer bothers to read the files. Instead of my modded characters I am left with the crappy looking defaults. What has changed with 2.4 and how do I get around it?

You now need a new Model Edit Fix. There is currently one available, but it is only for contributers and donators. The public one will probably be relased in the next few days.

You say a public one will be available in a few days? If one is where would that be posted at?

It would be posted in the Bots and Programs section where the old one (2.3.3) is posted now. It is a sticky.

    Same story here.

I have noticed that where in the Data folder there used to be a "patch-2.mpq", there now isn't. My assumtion is that the contents of patch-2 have been updated to "patch.mpq". As it no longer has to use patch-"2", WoW no longer looks for any patch-#.mpq. That is why our custom skins no longer work.

The only way around this that I can see without changing the source code of the program is to modify the "patch.mpq" file itself. However I would BACK UP the old one first, as there would be no way of reverting.
I HAVE NOT TESTED THIS THEORY, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK! However, if the new version of "Model Edit Fix" can allow us the usage of our skins again, then all will be well anyways.

Here's my twocents, hope this helps.

As mentioned above, the MEF is necessary for most skin and model changes.

If you leave any custom MPQ files in your folder while patching, there's a very likely chance those files may accidentally be merged into your common.mpq, patch.mpq, or patch-2.mpq. If that happens, you'll have corrupted data and be unable to launch WoW.

The best fix for that, rather than going in and manually editing the common or patch files, is to simply nab a non-tampered common.mpq, patch.mpq and patch-2.mpq file versions from a friend. A simple copy and paste would solve it.

Another suggestion I have is to keep the file numbers of your personal mpq files significantly different than the ones from Blizzard. I can't tell you how many times I've heard of people overriding the Blizzard mpq files.

Actually, I've never had a problem with WoW updates overwrighting my *.mpq files. And if it did intergrate them into the larger ones, wouldn't my mods be a permenant part of the WoW files, and I'd see them all the time anyways?

WoW runs fine after the 2.4 update, it just doesn't load the custom made MPQs. (Just for clairity, I name mine as a "patch(letter).mpq", blizzard does "patch-(number).mpq"). I've got a pretty good idea of how their patching system works. The contents of the patch-#.mpq files are given place over the contents of the main archives and wow loads them instead, untill a major patch where they just intergrate it all.

In this case, WoW doesn't expect there to be any patch, cause it's been intergrated, so it simply doesn't look for one. But correct me if I'm wrong.

However, I must point out that skin edits are possible without the MEF program, as I've been making/using customs skins for a long time now, just as their own mpq files, and only recently, after trying to get model changes to work have I run across the MEF program (WoWME don't work on Vista :P)

However, I will say +Rep to the one who made MEF, cause it works like a charm.
