Regarding:
I made a patch that fixes this error, basically it replaces a JZ instruction (Jump if Zero, opcode 74) with JMP (Jump, opcode EB) where the assertion that fails is made.
The patch utility can be downloaded from this link:
Dropbox - WoW-WOTLK-8303-assertion-fix.zip
Just extract the archive, copy the Wow.exe file in the newly extracted folder and run Patch-WOTLK-8303-assertion-failure.bat .
After this, you can copy the patched Wow.exe to your game folder.
This patch is for 3.0.1-8303 ENUS version, haven't tested the ENGB one. If the ENGB Wow.exe is identical with the ENUS, the patch will apply on that version as well.
If you don't want to download/execute the patch you can open the 3.0.1-8303 ENUS Wow.exe file in a hexeditor and change "74" to "EB" at 0x0013A45D.
OMG thanks!!
Do you also have any idea why installing the beta versions of Lich King makes the installer crash?

Patches/0.x - Wowpedia - Your wiki guide to the World of Warcraft
Most notably, these :
- 0.5.0 / 0.5.1 / 0.5.2 aren't documented anywhere else on the web. I'm not even sure they are real.
- 0.3.4 is the one akspa is talking about, the E3 build. I've spent countless hours searching on google, web caches, internet archives, ... to no success. And I know i'm not the only one who tried everything he could to get his hands on it. At this point, the only hope of finding this build again is from an old employee that decides to leak it, kinda like what happened for warcraft adventure not so long ago.
If you're reading this and have the client in your possession, know that i'm definitely willing to buy it.
- 0.6.0 can be found though. I think there has been a general confusion between 0.5.5 and 0.6.0 (both are named 0.5.5 on the main screen). But you can find links for the 0.6.0 build on this very thread.
Additional notes :
- 0.7.2 / 0.7.3 / 0.7.5 did exist, but only on mac it seems
- 0.10.1 added zul farak, and we don't have this build ^^ could be a mistake on the website though, as per
Talk:Patch 0.10.1 - Wowpedia - Your wiki guide to the World of Warcraft
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Patch 0.7.5 (Mac only, 2004-06-23)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Improves frame rates.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Patch 0.7.3 (Mac only, 2004-06-17)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
More fixes for crashes in certain locations.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Patch 0.7.2 (Mac only, 2004-06-16)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This patch includes a change to improve stability for MacOS X users
with ATI GPUs. It addresses system crashes observed when transitioning
from indoor to outdoor or vice versa, while the mini-map is enabled.

hello guys, first of all. thank you for your amazing work! allways love exploring things in wow. anyway. i added the wow old outland patch from here Patch-4.MPQ | Uloz.to to my data folder with the other patches. went to the same place on Old Outland Patch 3.3.5a - YouTube on my own trinitycore server to go there and it doesnt seem to be there, its still just the blue wall at the edge of the map.
my wow client and server is patch 3.3.5a
is there anything else i need to do to get this to work or is the patch the incorrect one? ty!
EDIT: My mistake, i allready had a patch-4 for something else in my download folder. so when i downloaded it, it came up as patch-4(1).mpq and when i changed
it to just patch-4.mpq i accidently left a space in the name. working now TY!!

You can save it as patch-5.mpq or patch-whateverletteryouwish.mpq, it doesn't matter.
By the way, not sure if I already mentioned it, but here is my archive of some patches.

Added legion 7.0.1.20756
http://nyarly.fr/WoWExplore/clients/....0.1.20756.rar I can't open it (it always attempt to update), tell me if you manage to do it.
(and still looking for a mop 5.0.1 client !)
And also, some minimaps:
http://nyarly.fr/WoWExplore/minimaps/minimap.txt (i know it looks horrible but it's the easiest solution for me, use ctrl+f !)
Erase minimap.txt in the url and replace with the new path.
map.png : full sized map. small_map.png : cropped at the last used tile.
There are three kind of maps:
1) VersionNumber, can have three subfolders :
> FromFile : minimap based on the md5translate file
> FromInterface : minimap based on the Interface folder (the ingame map when you press "m")
> FromWorld : minimap based on the world folder of the alpha builds
Example : black temple from tbc alpha, which explains the extra portal... http://nyarly.fr/WoWExplore/minimaps.../map_small.png
2) Diff_VersionNumber : map created from the adt files of that build. Shows you what land will exist ingame. Also has approximate coordinates.
Example : emerald dream's adtmap is a bit bigger than its minimap http://nyarly.fr/WoWExplore/minimaps...eam_adtmap.png
3) Diff_Version1_Version2 : highlights differences between two builds.
> Red : same data on both builds
> Yellow : area removed on version2's minimap
> Minimap : pixels of version2 that are different than version1. (version2 is drawn if the minimaps are totally different)
Example : notice menethil's cemetery? http://nyarly.fr/WoWExplore/minimaps...zeroth/map.png
Sometime you'll also see unmerged wmo maps.
All done with my "exploader" tool, so you can reproduce this at home too.

Yes, I already had the opportunity to explore them in the WoW clients from which they are, but I also wanted to make a user-friendly patch, as I have in my habit. So if somebody can fix it, he will be my hero :-) Here are all the data ->
WMO BETA.mpq | Uloz.to ... For example, completely untextured CoT :-)
Converted your files from WMOv16 to WMOv17. Should work in WotLK. Liquids are kinda broken.

I have this old text file regarding the mpq's from 5.0.1 -
Seems at least the first patch on that list is still working.
