WARNING YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE A HUGE WALL OF TEXT
Our guild has had TK/SSC on farm since November. I'm posting this guide to help any people who are in guilds that are stuck on Vashj. I'm doing this because 1. I need to get rid of Leecher status, and 2. Vashj is a very tough and random fight, this boss almost broke apart my guild. This fight and Kael are the 2 hardest boss fights in WoW at the moment in my honest opinion. Mount Hyjal and Black Temple took us only 2 months to clear entirely, and we never spent more then 3 nights on any 1 boss (And that was Archimonde). Anyway, here we go:
First, you will need to get the proper raid make up. Our raid usually consists of:
2 Tanks; We bring two incase our melee DPS fall behind on the Coilfang Elites, and when the last Tainted Core is ready to be put in
8 Healers; 1 on the east side of the platform, 1 south, 1 on the west side and 1 on the north. We then have the Strider kiter his own personal healer and 3 healers in the middle. Make sure at least 2 of the 3 people in the middle can cleanse poisins for the Tainted Poisin Bolts. Also make sure the outside healers can cleanse poisons as well. This means try and not to put priests on the outside. You can get away with 1 out of the 3 healers being able to cleanse poisins, but he/she will really have to step things up.
5 melee DPS; 3 on the Coilfang Elites at all times. Put a fury warrior or enhancement shaman on the South side of the platform, and preferably your weakest melee DPS on the South east.
9 ranged DPS; Put 2 on the west, 1 on the east, 1 on the north east stairs to kill elementals and put 5 on the Coilfang Strider that spawns
1 Kiter; This is probably the biggest problem for any guild. There are so many options out there to kite the striders, but I'm only going to go into Hunter kiting because we've found them the best for agro on the striders. My guild used every possible kiter and this has worked the best for us.
Have all members of your raid copy this macro:
/use Tainted Core
/y Tainted Core to %t
/s Tainted Core to %t
/script SendChatMessage("!!! YOU HAVE THE CORE !!!", "WHISPER", "Common", UnitName("target"))
Although it isn't NEEDED, it makes the fight that much easier.
Also, make sure your raid leader is announcing Deadly Boss Mods.
Once you have all of the above, you are ready to start wiping on Vashj ^_^
A few tips for each phase:
before the pull: PUT LOOT ON FFA SO OUTSIDE CAN LOOT THE CORES! If you don't=wipe
Phase 1: NO ONE CAN DIE! This is a tank and spank phase for the most part. Have a shaman in your MT's group and have him keep grounding totems down at ALL times. Have your paladin's make a Blessing of Freedom rotation, so that when your tank is entangled Vashj won't get out of melee range and starting shooting arrows at him. This is not a DPS race, it's all about survival. Have everyone make sure to spread out around here so no one takes too much damage from static charge. If your MT gets static charge, I suggest that all melee get out and stop all DPS. The other method is to have your OT taunt Vashj off the MT and have the MT run out. When someone runs out with static charge, it is the healers' job to keep that person up. They will take about 1.5k-1.8k damage every second from the debuff. You should never wipe on this phase, ever. A nice little tip is to hot the tank up, and put PW:S on him before running in, he takes alot of initial damage. Also have clothies stay down on the stairs for about 3 seconds when the fight starts. This is done because Vahj's Multi-Shot has been known to 1-shot them >.< Misdirects to start the phase off are nice as well.
Phase 2: This is the phase that you will wipe on alot and see so many times. So many things can go wrong, and this phase is very random. As soon as phase hits 70% she enters this phase. Elementals will start spawning around the stairs all around her and they MUST BE KILLED! They have only about 5k HP and are very squishy. For every elemental that leaks to Vashj, she gains a 10% damage increase, which sucks for phase 3. You can let a maximum of 3 elementals come in, before it becomes near impossible to do this on your first downing. As stated above, put 2 ranged on the west, 1 on the east, 1 on the north east stairs to kill elementals, put a Enhancement Shaman or Fury warrior on the South Spawns, and your weakest melee DPS on the South east. About 35 seconds into the fight, a Coilfang Elite will spawn. This naga will spawn randomly on any side on the lower part of the staircase and will 1-2 shot the nearest person next to him. In order to prevent your clothies and outside DPS from getting pwnt by this guy, have a paladin with improved righteous fury in the middle healing the melee that take damage from the forked lightning. The elite will 90% of the time agro on the healer and will allow the tank to pick him up easily. The tank should tank this elite right on top of Vashj, and the 3 melee DPS should kill them as soon as the tank gets agro. Always have your MT tank the elite, only having your OT tank incase the MT dies from lack of heals, or 2 naga elites are up. The nagas cleave as well, and will 1-shot anything but a tank, so don't stand in front of it, if you die to it, it's your fault. About 10 seconds after the naga, a strider pops up. He MUST be kited by a ranged DPS (preferably a hunter) because he does an AoE fear to anyone in melee range and he will 1-shot everything unless it's a tank. The hunter we usually use is survival for readiness, this allows more chances for him to mess up and not wipe the raid. If the kiter dies, the whole raid is basically dead. Have your tailors set up a netherweave net rotation so that the striders can't move and won'1 1-shot the kiter. Ranged DPS should DPS the strider as hard as possible without pulling off the kiter. You NEED to have the first strider down before the next one spawns in 45 seconds. The kiter should kite the strider around the outside of the middle platform, not too close to the stairs, but not too close to the shield generators. This takes practice. About 5 seconds after the strider spawns, a special elemental spawns called a Tainted Elemental! The outside DPS killing elementals need to stop what they are doing and kill him if it spawns on their side. It CAN NOT be allowed to de-spawn. It will do so about 15 seconds after it spawns so it must be nuked fast. Pop CD's if you have to. Once it is killed, have the DPS that killed it loot it, get the core it drops and throw it to their healer (who should stand on the top of the stairs) then the healer can throw it in to a ranged DPS in the middle to drop a shield. You throw the tainted core by using the macro i linked above. You can right click the core in the bag, but the macro is that much faster. A new tainted will spawn every 45 seconds, so repeat this procedure 4 times, and make sure your MT is ready to pick up vashj when you put the last core in. Nothing de-spawns so finish up any elementals/striders/nagas left up then move on to vashj.
Phase 3: This is a copy of phase 1 except one special thing... you now have to deal with spore bats!!! These spore bats spawn near the bridge to Vashj's room. have your hunter's kill the spore bats up in the air as they spawn. If they don't then the floor of Vahj's room will become covered in a thing called Toxic Spores which do 3000 damage a second if you stand in it. The MT has to be continuously moving Vashj on the outside of the room so that the melee DPS and himself/herself won't die from a toxic spore spawn. If you can survive phase 2 with about 22 people up, you should have enough DPS to burn Vashj down before the room becomes covered in toxic spores.
This fight is anything but tank intensive, tanks probably have the easiest job here lol.
Gear shouldn't be a problem either... a guild with ZA Gear and maybe 1-2 SSC/TK pieces of gear per person can do Vashj NP.
If you are wiping on a certain part and can't figure out why, post it here and let me know what your doing and I'll try and give you some tips to fix the problem.
I typed this guide up all by myself straight from my head, so if I forgot anything, let me know.
