Thank you for your feedback of Excellence so far! I proudly present MMOwned with my baby thread, updated twice!:
ITEMS THAT WILL LAST YOU FOREVER
Okay, I didn't see anything like this here but this has been an interesting topic in my guild, and that topic is this:
Staying Power
That is, how long is an item going to last you? Not twink items or items that always sell well, but The idea being, if you go from 1- max level, and then to raiding, how long is an item going to last you before it ends up in some vendors hands or being sharded?
More importantly...
Will it last you through the upcoming expansion??!1one!
Here's some examples to show why this is an important idea, and to clarify on my wordiness:
These are items that will last you forever and/or will always be useful**
(unless they are replaced by something that is better in every way):
Azure Silk Belt - Increases swimming speed by 15 %
Azure Silk Belt - Items - World of Warcraft
Why its always useful: It increases swim speed by a static percentage, and is useable by even max leveled dudes
Barov Peasant caller - calls forth three pets
Barov Peasant Caller - Items - World of Warcraft
Why its always useful: It has a hefty 10 min cooldown, and the guys are only level 60, but it can be easily used to confuse opponents in PvP with 3 extra mobs
To clarify, this means that after you get these items youll be wanting them around either for sheer fun value and mild usefulness (peasant caller) or actual utility and usefulness and being very good (belt).
Since you probably don't want me to list every single item in WoW history and explain wether or not it works or doesnt work or why its bad or not bad, I'll give you some guidlines to follow for finding Items that last forever and even through expansions:
1. Items with percentage values - I'll try to find more low level or easier-to-come-by stuff for this section, as the three posted here (minus the belt, see above) are all deep into pre BC 40 man raids. WTB suggestions.
These items affect all targets the same. Rather than increasing a certain value or haveing a certain effect, these items have a great effect at any level. Examples:
THUNDARFURY!! RAWR! (I've seen Main tanks wield this post BC... Good ones.)
Why: Slowing down mobs attacks (by a very large ratio) means less damage, means better tanking, you are getting hit 3 times in a span of time when you would have been hit by 4. Put mongoose (more lightning imo) or some awesome enchant on it and it competes with the best BC tank weps
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker - Items - World of Warcraft
The Earthshatterer set values
The Earthshatterer - Item Sets - World of Warcraft
Why its useful: if you fully enchant 2 of the set, it turns out to be decent healing gear for a shaman (about at karazhan or L70 dungeons), with a neat percentage effect on certain totems.
Scarab Brooch
Scarab Brooch - Items - World of Warcraft
Why: Item still is very good after the expansion, the effect is still the same.
Its a little hefty to take up a whole trinket slot with no actual stats, but the sheild it gives also applies to spot healing raid members during AoE and such, especially for shamans with chain heal, and not just on the main tank
2. Items with alot of MP5: Why? Mana per 5 second effects rock, especially on rings which can be enchanted into craziness, and trinkets which have cool effects. Ask a healer, running out of mana is to be avoided.
Examples:
Rejuvenating Gem - static effect means you dont have to think about using it
Rejuvenating Gem - Items - World of Warcraft
Heavenly inspiration - this is alot of mp5
Heavenly Inspiration - Items - World of Warcraft
3. Lots of Hit Rating
Self explaniatory, if it has alot of hit rating, its to be kept, especially on a ring or trinket. Don’t sacrifice weapons for hit rating though. Hit rating ratios have not changed significantly since the expansion, from 60 to 70. I'll try to find proof of that, but disproof is also welcome.
Example: Drake Fang Talisman – has some amazing combat bonuses for a L60 item
Drake Fang Talisman - Items - World of Warcraft
Romulo’s Poison Vial – if you notice, hit rating ratios haven’t changed much from original to BC, so I assume it wont change much from BC to WoTLK, and this is a MASSIVE amount of hit rating
Romulo's Poison Vial - Items - World of Warcraft
4. Pets - theyre humerous and stuff, and theyre helpful
Tiny voodoo mask
Tiny Voodoo Mask - Items - World of Warcraft
Tentacle of cthun
Vanquished Tentacle of C'Thun - Items - World of Warcraft
Why? Pets are many things, they are more damage sources (are the gnomes affected by wrath-of-air-totem?). They are a morale boost for a raiding group, and are sometimes funny. Always fun to look at, and a distraction in pvp.
5 and 6. Things with ballin’ static and use effects
definition: items you can equip, and they do something cool, and you don't need to think about it. Usually trinkets, rings, and weapons, sometimes obscure gear like weapons and shields even.
Many of the effects on this gear can be obtained with the proffession Engineering.
Examples:
Hydrocane (thanks Kaniran!) - you breath underwater. Thats good if you want to farm something underwater, like say, primal waters in skettis or terrokar in general, and is even very good for lower questing. Alternative if you want to wield your normal weapon: Deepdive Helmet - Items - World of Warcraft
Hydrocane - Items - World of Warcraft
EASY TO GET AND VERY GOOD : Bounty of the Harvest - Conjures 4 foodz, 12 hour cooldown. Very good for hunters, get yourselves free food that is always at your pet's level
Bounty of the Harvest - Items - World of Warcraft
Ornate spyglass – allows you to look far into the distance. Easily made, and has a neat effect, and many uses. Look for patrolling mobs, look to see if there are elites in your path. Also, the level 70 engineer only epic goggles (EG. Deathblow X11 Goggles - Items - World of Warcraft) do this.
Ornate Spyglass - Items - World of Warcraft
Cursed Vision of Sargeras – WARNING! VERY HARD TO GET! – Allows any class that can wear leather to track demons, plus epic attack bonuses and such. Cursed Vision of Sargeras - Items - World of Warcraft
Skyguard Slowfall cloaks - some stats, and slows your fall speed, 30 min cooldown. Don't know if theyre cooldown shared or if you can have 2 or what. Slowing fall speed rocks, by the way. I swear by it while running around karazhan (it has alot of large cliffs)!
Skyguard's Drape - Items - World of Warcraft
7. Things with eternal LoL value or things that can impress your friends.
Time lost figurine drops from Terokk in Terokkar forest, but why do that when you can skip the stupid quest line and get :
A Shabby Disguise - Quests - World of Warcraft (a shabby arrakoa disguise). Doesn’t even have the stupid cooldown either.
Time-Lost Figurine - Items - World of Warcraft
Orb of Deception – transforms you into the other faction. Cool for pvp and scaring your friends. I always wanted a Draenei rogue. I liked the hero "Akama" in WCIII: Frozen Throne, cuz he basically tore through everything and stealthed around, and he was a draenei. Hard to get though.

ALRIGHT thats all I can think of now. Post suggestions/flames on how to make this post more informative and better! All the best!
I must try to find a way to make this post more informative without being a wall of text for next time!
