So I've used this on and off for a while, when I get bored I will do /who worgen and look for low level worgens, I'll then ask if they want to make 200g which if they're an alt isn't huge but if they're new its an insane amount. I then explain there is a pet only worgens can buy, leaving out they can only buy it once... They are more than happy to buy a 4 silver pet and get 200g for doing it. On my mains server these actually move at 2500 and list on the AH at 3500 as a uncommon level 1 B/B on my other high pop server stormrage they move lower at 800g but its still a 600g profit. This is of course server dependant.

The item sells in Darkshore so I guess it would be more time consuming than it's worth to get it by leveling on your own?

Wowhead shows it being sold in darkshore but the chick in SW near the cata portals lets worgens "train it" by clicking on "interested in catching some rare pets?" it takes hours to get through either the worgen starting zone or the DK starting zone making this less than ideal. I've been able to get low level worgens to buy it for me for as low as 30g and sold it in the same quality and level for 2500 in the same hour. also worth noting sometimes (not often) they will be like "Its not in the vendor" which means they've already got it and twice they caged what they had and it was S/S breed which is no longer available and is 20k on most servers.

Don't you have to complete all the starting worgen quests to get out? Same if you make a Worgen DK?

It is possible to get out of Gilneas early and it takes about 1/4 of the time completeing the quests does. I'll be doing this while borrowing gold from someone on Ally side. One question I have though, is that now Horde / Alliance AH are merged will they still be worth as much?

Of course, nobody likes the Worgen starting zone quests, on my server they sell for 3k each (rare lvl 1)
