You don;t have to leave the group at all. I have been doing that for months, farming LK25 HC
I have on my hunter save. I inv friend, from main and convert to raid, I give him RL and logoff to my alt ( one with save ) he invites me, I extend and get back on main, he gives me RL back and leaves the group with my alt still in group then i switch to 25 and get inside and then switch to HC...

The OP post is wrong/explained improperly a couple of aspects... Here is the correct way, step by step to do it:
(Values for ICC lockouts)
1. Have an character with a expired 11/12 ID on with the difficulty: (10 Players) Normal Mode.
2. Extend the Lockout
3. While outside the raid, invite your friend to a group.
4. Convert the group to a raid.
5. Set the difficulty to (25 Players).
6. Have your friend enter the raid zone.
Now he can set it to Heroic (for ICC lockouts). For Ulduar, he just need to go to Yogg's room and fight it.
The alt can stay in the group, or leave, it doesn't matter, as long as it never zones into the instance after it.
As the OP said, this can be used as many weeks as you want, as many times a week you desire.
It works for any raid introduced after 3.0.3 (Wrath+) [Never tested with Naxx, but it should work]
it DOES NOT work for Black Temple/Sunwell/Other BC or Vanilla raids (Different lockout system)
I don't believe ID would have anything to do with loot tables, I think random is just random? Unless it's something like ID 21 = A B C variables and ID 22 = D E F variables? Doubtful though..
However, I didn't stop to think about something like this, I usually just run the whole damn thing. Would be useful for my BT/Glaive runs though! So thanks for posting <3
