Recently, I have been dueling with friends for gold.
Here are some neat tricks (using specific items) to gain some advantages over your opponent. Note that most of these items are pre-BC items and very easy to get.
Situation 1 : Your interrupt ability is on cooldown (Counterspell, silence, kick, pummel, shield bash, etc.) and your opponent is casting a greater heal on himself.
Use magic dust! Thottbot World of Warcraft: Magic Dust
This item requires level 10 and puts the target to sleep for 30 seconds (1.5 sec cast time).
It can be found in Westfall on Dust Devils (level 18-19). The drop rate is very low.
You can also use these for PvE since you can sleep even elite mobs. It also affects level 70s, but resists apply.
Situation 2: Same as #1 but different item.
Use Tidal Charm. Thottbot World of Warcraft: Tidal Charm
It is a trinket found on a rare spawn in Arathi Highlands.
The trinket requires level 36. It is instant cast. It stuns the target for 3 seconds.
It was nerfed around the time BC came out, maybe in 1.12, can't remember.
The difference is : It has now a greater chance to be resisted by targets above level 60.
Yes it can screw up. But it still can help a lot.
Situation 3: Target has popped melee cooldowns and you need to GTFO, quick. (HORDE SIDE)
Use Really Sticky Glue. Thottbot World of Warcraft: Really Sticky Glue
This item is a quest reward and BoP. 1 min cooldown.
It renders a target unable to move for 10 sec, giving you enough time to get out and do whatever you need to win the duel.
They stack up to 10. (You get 10 after completing this quest:Thottbot World of Warcraft: Quest: A Solvent Spirit )
Btw... There was an alternative for Alliance but this was nerfed at least 1-2 years ago, the item was removed from the game.
For the people interested... The item was Large Rope Net, a level 2 item found in Westfall from the Defias Trappers. http://thottbot.com/?i=1981
Basically, it's the same thing than the Really Sticky Glue (same cooldown (1min) and same effect). The main difference is that they DO NOT stack. But you could get more than 1, as opposed to the Really Sticky Glue (you get 10 then it's over).
