Gold guide: Making huge amounts of gold with inscription.

In this guide you're going to be milling herbs you've bought off the AH. Once the herbs are milled, you're going to make them in to inks, where Starlight Ink will be sold on the AH and Ink of Dreams will be made into glyphs, banked up for later use (you're going to be able to trade these into Starlight Ink) or made into shoulder enchants that will vendor for roughtly 6,25g pr. ink.


1) Checking the market & buying herbs.

Before you start pricechecking and buying herbs, I recommend you get an addon that will help you optimize your efficiency when using the AH. I personally use Auctionator. This addon can be downloaded HERE.

The first thing you're going to do is check the AH price for Starlight Ink - followed by all the different types of MoP herbs that has come available. These different types of herbs are called:
Green Tea Herb
Silkweed
Rain Poppy
Fool's Cap
Snow Lily
Desecrated Herb

*All of these herbs but Fool's Cap have ~25% chance pr. mill to give you 1-3 Misty Pigment . Fool's Cap have ~50% and is by far the best herb to mill if you're doing this, but will generally also be about twice as expensive.*

On my server the Starlight Ink go for anything between 240-300g+, and the cheapest herbs are Green Tea Herb and Silkweed. These will generally be sold in in stacks of 20 for 60g+, where most of them are around 80-90g a stack.

Knowing there's a 25% chance pr. mill (apart from Fool's Cap) to get 1-3 Misty Pigments, one stack of herbs will on average net 1-3 pigments, which will be made into Starlight Ink and sold for more than twice what you gave for the stack of herbs. This means we're making a noticeable profit even without counting the tons of Ink of Dreams we also receive when milling.

If your prices are similiar to mine (1 stack of herbs going for less than half the price of one Starlight Ink) you're ready to buy herbs, and in big numbers.

When you're buying herbs its important you dont completely wipe out the market by buying, ex. all the herbs going for <4,5g pr. This will make the market-price go up relatively fast and will cut into your profits. You're much better off only buying mass-posted auctions, such as 15 stacks of 20 herbs posted for the same price (same seller). On THIS screenshot you see me outlining the auctions I would buy - the rest I would leave up to avoid the price of the given herb to go up.


2) Milling the herbs you just bought.

When you're milling a ton of herbs you dont want to sit there clicking milling, then clicking your herbs. Instead you're much better off using this macro:

The macro will use milling and then mill any of the herbs listed above (feel free to change it if you're milling something else). Its important to note that this wont work if you have a stack of herbs that isnt able to be divided by 5. So keep your herb stacks at 5, 10, 15 or 20 to avoid that.

If you're the kind of person who'd much rather be doing something else, than click the above macro for hours, i've also made a script that will do that for you (even if you're tabbed out of WoW). For this to work you will first have to download the newest version of AHK (AutoHotKey). This can be found HERE.

Once you have AHK downloaded you're going to want to open up an empty notepad document and you will have to copy-paste the text below into that document:

Now either save this script, or change the "ControlSend,, 2, World of Warcraft" into where ever you have your milling macro ingame. I have mine on 2, *hint* why it says for the script to send 2. If you dont mind having your milling macro binded to 2 save this document somewhere its easily accesable.

To get this script to work, all you have to do is right click the document you just saved, and run it in AutoHotKey. Once this is opened in AHK it will continuously send the keystroke 2 to your WoW client with a 400 millisecond interval. To get it to stop you locate the AHK icon on the toolbar of your PC (It's a green/red H), and you right click it to get a list of options.

Once you have your inventory filled with pigments you turn off AHK and set it to make inks instead. This can be done via the Inscription prof. and doesnt require a script.


3) Selling the inks!

This is when you list your Starlight Ink and think about what to do about all those darn Ink of Dreams. When you're listing Starlight Ink make sure you dont float the AH (list too many at once!), as this will make the price drop. Since I keep a close eye at what I sell I usually list 10-15 in single inks and another 15 in stacks of 5. Once I see some of them sold I go post more and repost the ones I had up if they got undercut.

If its worth it on your server I recommend crafting one Darkmoon Card a day from these inks too - its usually worth it from what I've seen. Since the Darkmoon Card craft takes one Scroll of Wisdom, and this item has a cooldown that resets @00:00 servertime, it is adviced you remember to craft this one every day.

When it comes to getting rid of Ink of Dreams its not as simple as the above. I usually spend mine crafting the BoP epic shoulder enchants or the BoE blue shoulder enchants, which I then vendor for a profit of slightly under 6,25g pr. Ink of Dreams. It might also be wise to just stock them up since they're going to be used as a currency to buy Starlight Ink from the inscription vendors.

If you have the time you could also use these inks to craft glyphs - another high profit market, especially if you know what you're doing.

I dont recommend selling them on the AH at all. Unless they're selling for 8g+ in a resonable pace you're much better off just crafting shoulders and vendoring them.

Just for good riddance here's a picture of me selling a card + inks within minutes of having them posted on the AH. In this batch I invested ~10k gold in herbs and made more than 20k just selling the Starlight Ink.

You mean Rare (aka blue) shoulder enchants?

May i add something?

1. If the prices of epic shoulder enchants are expensive (i.e costs more than 3x Starlight Inks) craft those instead and sell them for more profit.

2. Another way to use your Ink of Dreams is to craft the rare shoulder enchants.

3. Craft your Scroll of Wisdom(3x Ink of Dreams) EVERY day and create either a Darkmoon Card or an Epic item, if you're lucky with the darkmoon cards you can get one worth alot of gold.

4. Each time you perform your Scroll of Wisdom you'll learn a new glyph, perhaps you're a solo seller of this glyph? $$$


I've made 50k the last 2 days from just doing these 4 things.

I did mean the epic BoP shoulder enchant as mentioned in my post - these have the same vendor price as the rare BoE ones though, so whichever you choose shouldn't make a difference. I dont recommend trying to sell the BoE enchants though, the profit is minor and you're much better off just vendoring them imo.

I did also include the crafting of Darkmoon cards - but sure i'll add in the Scroll of Wisdom since thats actually the vital craft, and not the Darkmoon card itself!

Edit: Your 3. point says the Scroll costs 10x Starlight Inks, they dont - its Ink of Dreams.

You forgot maybe the most important part for getting rid of the common ink.
These days at my realm Green Tea leaf are going for 40g each = free herbs. The vendor price of the rare shoulder enchants are 18.5g. And out of average you will get 9 common inks per stack of herb. That means that each stack of herb priced under 50g you will get for free!

So snatch all herbs under 70g as its really a 20g per stack of misty pigments chance!

I think that the price or starlight ink will drop very fast once the dream inks can be traded for starlight inks and this will stop being such a gold machine

This will probably be true - so use this while it lasts.. If the competition is low it might still work because while Starlight Inks will decrease in price for sure, you also need to remember the previous low profit Dream Inks will be worth 1/10'th the price of a Starlight Ink. That almost 10 times as much as they're being sold for right now.

Really good guide. I just have a question, does Starlight ink really sell good? On my server they are at 250g / piece, and I've posted 15 singles and 3 pieces 5 stacks just like it says in the guide but no one seems to buy them. Do you have any idea?

People usually buy starlight inks when they want to craft darkmoon cards.. Past 00:00 and mid-day, when people start to log on, would probably be high peak times (weekends too)..
