How to Turn 500g into 20k+ Gold

This is a fascinating market that has been around since the start of the Darkmoon Faire. I only learned about it a couple months back when a user ( duck ) from the consortium forums posted it. I simply love making gold with this method.

You can make thousands of gold from this method and you're only having to invest a couple thousand. Last time I did this method I put in roughly 500g and walked out with about 20,000g in loot from patterns/greens. After everything sold I was sitting on a nice hefty pile of 21,500g.

The way the method works is you buy Dense Stone, use a blacksmith ( or your own ) to turn that into Dense Grinding Stone which you will then turn that in into Kerri Hicks who takes 8 Dense Grinding Stones for 20 Darkmoon Faire Tickets. You then turn those tickets in for bags that can have varied loot but most importantly a ton of rare & expensive patterns.

There are three different bags that you can turn in the tickets in for, I'll list them below and their noteable loots.

Minor Darkmoon Prize - Item - World of Warcraft [ 5 Tickets ]
Razor's Edge - Item - World of Warcraft
Feet of the Lynx - Item - World of Warcraft
Ranger Bow - Item - World of Warcraft
Blackfang - Item - World of Warcraft
Rakzur Club - Item - World of Warcraft
Sentry Cloak - Item - World of Warcraft

Lesser Darkmoon Prize - Item - World of Warcraft [ 12 Tickets ]
Plans: Mithril Shield Spike - Item - World of Warcraft
Pattern: Guardian Belt - Item - World of Warcraft
Schematic: Craftsman's Monocle - Item - World of Warcraft
Pattern: Comfortable Leather Hat - Item - World of Warcraft
Midnight Mace - Item - World of Warcraft
Black Duskwood Staff - Item - World of Warcraft

Greater Darkmoon Prize - Item - World of Warcraft [ 40 Tickets ]
Pattern: Mooncloth Leggings - Item - World of Warcraft
Schematic: Sniper Scope - Item - World of Warcraft
Plans: Radiant Belt - Item - World of Warcraft
Plans: Dawnbringer Shoulders - Item - World of Warcraft
Six Demon Bag - Item - World of Warcraft
Schematic: Lifelike Mechanical Toad - Item - World of Warcraft
Plans: Whitesoul Helm - Item - World of Warcraft
Formula: Enchant Gloves - Riding Skill - Item - World of Warcraft
Pattern: Star Belt - Item - World of Warcraft

When opening the bags you'll receive a ton of greens that you can sell anywhere from 10-25g ( I sell all of mine at 25g/ea and relist every 48 hours.. I rarely get any of them back unsold ). By selling the green you're actually paying for the price of the Dense Stone which is just simply great, it makes the rare patterns/rare gear 100% profit.

I suggest you guys go try this out, it's an easy way to turn 500g into 10k+ gold, even more depending if you get a rare pattern worth 5-10k+. What do you have to risk? Go ahead an try it out!

This is quite outdated, tbh the majority of those 'rare' recipes are low loot rate and under 100g. It's not really worth it now. Back in vanilla this was viable.

No this is during Cataclysm. We ran a test on The Consortium Forums and the profit actually did amount to 20k gold.

Do the bags drop updated loot or the stuff listed? if so for my realm at least this is 100% useless.

    EDIT:
Also from what I have read on the consortium forums this was WHEN cata was brand new and lots of people were leveling so yes greens would sell then, may as well vendor them now though.

I can't imagine you have gotten very far in terms of gold making if you so willingly overlook the real value of certain items.

Allow me to give you a few examples:
Schematic: Lifelike Mechanical Toad - Item - World of Warcraft will fetch you 4,000g-10,000g no problem.
Pattern: Star Belt - Item - World of Warcraft 1,000g easily.
Pattern: Comfortable Leather Hat - Item - World of Warcraft 500g.
Schematic: Sniper Scope - Item - World of Warcraft 1,000g.
Formula: Enchant Gloves - Riding Skill - Item - World of Warcraft 2,500g or more.

This has no effect on any of the professions items listed what so ever, and to be honest people are actually willing to pay even MORE for them now than at the beginning of Cataclysm since they have more gold now and have bought all their shiny BOE epics already.

If you manage to sell those green items for 2g each, you have already recouped all the gold that you spent on the dense stone and have all the gold to make from the blues and professions items too. Otherwise just DE the green and sell the mats, it works quite well.

I don't understand how people could pay 1k for a useless pattern (the Star Belt), is it for RP? Cause you could get a 10x better belt by doing randoms on that level.

yeah i have to agree, i am not seeing how this could be useful. though if this is true i didnt realize people still care for low level patterns when randoms give best gear @ that level.

The toad on the ah on 650g.
    riding enchant 200g
rest of the patterns are less than 100g.
I play on a high pop server and the fact that the chance of those dropping is very low it's just not worth it on my realm.

OCD completionists will pay big bucks for rare patterns. Besides that, the mechanical toad pattern is pretty much a license to print money, if you pay attention and advertise your toads.

Bought every stack of dense stones on my realm.

As of now, I will have 1900 tickets when Darkmoon comes around. Each stack was about 50s each so I spent about 100g or so.

Hes talking about the reciepe, not the toad itself. Either way, this is far off in the first place, ive got to agree, OP and his friends are advertising this like a easy turnover on 500g to 20k. In reality, its borderline ridiculous, because this is so heavily server economy dependant, that its not even possible to discuss.

Traxex84 just mentioned here, above me, that players who play on highpop realms, never get these opportunities. Too many people, shit is always cheap on ah. Figured id by the enchanting gloves riding skill tho, only 7 gold, worth it.

The vast majority of players trying to pull big ones out of this thing here is going to get burnt bigtime.

I also quite fancy the way Unholyshaman slaps some dude further up here, for beeing narrow minded, when he himself has yet to reach the conclusion that this is probably only good on 1/5 realms.

Luckily tho, theres something called the undermine journal, a ongoing project. Heres the enchant gloves forumal on a well populated american server:
Formula: Enchant Gloves - Riding Skill - Earthen Ring*Alliance - The Undermine Journal (alliance)
Formula: Enchant Gloves - Riding Skill - Earthen Ring*Horde - The Undermine Journal (horde)

You see the rare spike above 3k here, but its fairly easy to see that the vast majority of these are rock bottom. Some of them down on 2-4 gold. Maybe I overpaid when I threw in 7 g on mine. No, but on a more serious note, dont pegg this as a guide to surely increase your gold. I would rather approach this with a bit of "here are some tricks that might possibly make you some gold, depending on your servers economy". Because turning 500g into 20k is out of the question on most realms.

As bluesius said, don't look at the actual end products. Look at the RECIPES.

Yes it's because of completionists, and YES it does actually sell for that price. They take a while to sell but they DO sell. Let me show you some extreme examples:

Recipe: Discolored Healing Potion - Item - World of Warcraft (QUEST, HORDE)
Recipe: Fire Protection Potion - Item - World of Warcraft
Recipe: Lesser Stoneshield Potion - Item - World of Warcraft

Recipe: Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops - Item - World of Warcraft
Recipe: Dig Rat Stew - Item - World of Warcraft
Recipe: Kaldorei Spider Kabob - Item - World of Warcraft (ALLIANCE)
Recipe: Soothing Turtle Bisque - Item - World of Warcraft

Schematic: Deepdive Helmet - Item - World of Warcraft
Schematic: Ice Deflector - Item - World of Warcraft

Pattern: Deviate Scale Belt - Item - World of Warcraft
Pattern: Blue Dragonscale Breastplate - Item - World of Warcraft
Pattern: Chimeric Gloves - Item - World of Warcraft
Pattern: Shadoweave Mask - Item - World of Warcraft

Plans: Blazing Rapier - Item - World of Warcraft
Plans: Enchanted Battlehammer - Item - World of Warcraft
Plans: Dawn's Edge - Item - World of Warcraft
Plans: Golden Scale Gauntlets - Item - World of Warcraft (QUEST, ALLIANCE)

These items are CURRENTLY NO LONGER OBTAINABLE INGAME other than the ones that have not bee learned/trained yet.
You have to agree that these are worth a fortune to those who want to complete their professions lists.

The same applies for the items from the DMF but in slightly lesser degrees. Some are rarer because they used to mainly drop from the Pre-BC world bosses.

Most players who have obtained exceedingly high amounts of gold legally (such as the new gold cap of 1 million gold minus 1 copper) start looking for new hobbies because they have obtained their main goal with gold. During the process, they become rather attached to professions, and tend to collect recipes and patterns etc to help their gold income anyways.

So one of the first things they start doing is trying to complete their professions, and since they have so much gold to throw around, 10k gold just for the convenience of obtaining a recipe that can take months and months to farm, is peanuts for them.
