    Multiboxing Guide :: 1 PC with 5 Accounts

    I personally don't multibox that long, the setup that I use in this guide is therefor:

    5x Accounts / Chars
    2x 22" Monitors
    1x PC
    1x WoW Installation

    This thread is separated under following topics:
    1. What is Multiboxing?
    2. What does this all cost?
    3. What do i need?
    4. Octopus manual
    5. Go!
    6. Addons & Macros

    *** 1. What is Multiboxing? ***
    Easy: The player plays more chars simultaneously with one keyboard. Is this allowed? Does blizzard support it? - Yes AND No! Multiboxing is allowed, but Blizzard doesn't officially support it, though the multiboxers will benefit the most with the "Invite A Friend"-Option.

    -- In hand:
    Main = Main char/account
    Toon = Alt-char/account

    *** 2. What does this all cost? ***
    Seriously, Multiboxing is expensive!

    -- Price list:
    $19.99 :: World of Warcraft
    $29.99 :: World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (Expansion)
    $29.99 :: World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Expansion)
    $14.99 :: One month of game time.

    Attention: With the "Invite A Friend"-Option + Account Creation = Your Accounts will get 2 months of free Game time + a 10 Day Guest pass.

    *** 3. What do i need? ***
    -- A very good PC
    If you still wanna play with good frames with 5 clients you will need a good PC. My PC is a good example - with it i can play smoothly

    -- My hardware
    CPU: Intel Core2 Quad 6600 2,4ghz
    GPU: GeForce 8800 GTX
    Main: Gigabyte P35
    Ram: 2x 2048 GB DDR2

    All WoW Clients have about 30 (FPS).
    Tip: Edit your Graphic details on your 4 ALT-Clients to low!

    Lower spec computers should upgrade or just use 3-4 Clients.

    -- Key Broadcasters
    That's the program which copies your keyboard taps and your mouseclicks and sends it to your WoW Clients.. There are many programs like this, but the most known are Keyclone and Octopus, i use Octopus because it is free.

    -- Octopus
    You need to install the following stuff so that octopus can work flawlessly:

    Link: Frameworks.NET 3.5
    Link: VCR 2008 C++

    After you install the stuff above you download octopus.
    Link: http://skarlot.net/octopus/octopus1.3.5f.zip (Current Version)

    *** 3. Octopus manual ***
    Download -> Unpack -> Open Folder -> execute Octopus.exe
    ATTENTION VISTA USERS: Rightclick -> Properties -> Compatiblity -> Start as a Admin
    This is what octopus should look like
    [Step 1] - Menu: Client -> Windows
    Tick "Auto add windows"
    Window title: World of Warcraft
    Tick "Substring match"
    Process name: wow
    [Step 2] Menu: Client -> Games
    Tag: World of Warcraft
    Click "..." and search for Wow.exe
    [Step 3] Menu: Server -> Keys

    2x 22 Monitor, Resolution: 1600x1200
    This it looks like on my Computer:
    [Step 5] Menu: Status
    Click "Start", and you should see localhost.
    [Step 6] Menu: Status
    Click at "..."
    Click "New"
    a new line/instance was created in the optionswindow,
    at "Remove" and "New" this line/instance can be edited,
    these instances are your WoW-Clients, but first we need to edit them.
    We need a Main-Client and 4 Alt-Clients.
    [Step 6.1] Main Client
    Name: WoW MAIN
    Game: "localhost:World of Warcraft" (Step 5 needs to be executed!)

    [Step 6.2] four Toon/alt Clients (4 new lines)
    Name: WoW TOON1 ; WoW TOON2 ; WoW TOON3 ; WoW TOON4 (one Instance after each comma)
    Game: "localhost:World of Warcraft" (Step 5 must be executed!)
    Maximizer: "toon1 ; toon2 ; toon3 ; toon4" (WoW TOON1 = toon1 ; WoW TOON2 = toon2 ; etc.)
    Tick "Receives broadcast keys"
    Tick "Receives broadcast clicks"
    maxfps: 32
    Tick "Auto gxResolution"
    [Step 7] "Key strikes" Activated!
    Tick "Keys" (Bottom of the Octopus window at Broadcast

    *** 5. Go! ***

    1. Execute Octopus.exe
    2. Octopus -> Status -> START
    3. Octopus -> Status -> Instances -> Run all (http://i33.tinypic.com/20pbzwy.png)
    4. Wait, the five WoW Clients now will be started one after the other.
    5. Account login - create your Characters
    6. Login, with all Chars.
    7. Make your Addons & Macros (read next category)

    *** 6. Addons & Macros ***

    -- Addon: Multiboxer v2
    Functions like: Leave Combat = follow Groupleader & Questshare = automatic Accept
    Link: http://www.smurfy.de/files/MultiBoxerv2_0.5.zip

    -- Macros
    Macros are very important, you will realize that without macros you are lost. the most important macros:

    -- follow Mainchar
    Make the following macro for every toon:
    /follow MainCharName
    -- Groupinvite
    Make for your Mainchar:
    /invite ToonChar1
    /invite ToonChar2
    /invite ToonChar3
    /invite ToonChar4
    -- Accept/Confirm (for Quests, Trade, Invite, Resurrection)
    Make for Every Toon:
    /script AcceptGroup();
    /script AcceptQuest();
    /script AcceptTrade();
    /script RetrieveCorpse();
    -- Fight / Cast (the Toons attack the Main's target)
    Make for every Toon:
    /assist MainCharName
    /cast Spellname
    That's it - I hope i helped some of you, the guide was made with help from dual-boxing.com

    The reality behind Pwnboxer is that it'll cost you roughly $935.00 a year to play 5 accounts plus an additional one time payment of $400.00 for 5 copies of all the CD-Keys needed to play.

    at what point is enough.. enough?

    Good guide though, Thank you.
