World First: Illidan Stormrage 5-man
Hey there, thanks for taking an interest in this thread.
I'm Darkzippy and together with 4 friends we managed to down Illidan Stormrage 5-man on Jan 9 - 2010
We also recorded the battle from 2 views atm (rogue and healer), more to come later.
I haven't been really active on Mmowned since the day that I joined, so this is actually my first real post, so be nice !
:whythis:
In this thread I am just going to simply explain what we did to manage the kill: So here we go!
First of all we started preparing in August 2009 with getting through the phases. (theoretically).
Items we use:
Tank: Lesser flask of Resistance: Lesser Flask of Resistance - Item - World of Warcraft
Group: Runescroll of Fortitude: Runescroll of Fortitude - Item - World of Warcraft
(as many people wondered where our priest buff came from).
Our dps/healer: just flasks or whatever they can find in their baggs, so no need really.
Gear:
As many people think: "this fight seems so ffn easy", we actually still wipe 1-2 times. RNG can be a bitch here.
Tank:
As I'm tanking this fight on Dremlock, I use a mix of lvl 80 epics and lvl 70 Badge Fire Resistance gear. (I have arround 300 fire res). As tanking the Flames is actually the hardest part.
Healer:
We actually use a paladin due to bubbel or DI when things go bad.
Our pala starts with Shadow Res aura, switching to Fire Res in P2 and then again to shadow.
Dps:
Our dps does a min. of 5K, netherwing and Nilio go for 8K top and our hunter for 6K. I'm doing 2.4K as tank and Joly jumps in on dps now and then. No additional Fire Res gear needed.
The Fight:
Phase 1:
Tank: Pick-up Illidan and drag him to the pilar. Move him when does Flame Crash to move him from flames. Face illidan away from party to avoid Draw Souls.
Dps: Help out the party with Parasitic Shadowfiend.
(Phase 2 starts at arround 2800K HP)
Healer: Just take a distance to help out your dps kill the fiends, or give them time to kill them.
Phase 2:
Tank: Go the middle, Get one flame and drag it the center of the small circle. While, Hunter/Rogue misdirect other flame to you.
Start tanking at the very edge of the circle and move down in a straight line to avoid flame patches stacking to high.
Stay in the middle! As when you go to far both flames enrage! Even at lvl 80 with 300+ fire resistance these flames one shot. Fire punches vary from 35K-50K.
Once one Flame is dead, tank it near the glaive it is connected to.
Flames have arround 700K health, so one drag in the circle should kill one elemental, else you'll have to move back north. Running through all the patches.
Dps: Stay in the center circle, try to avoid the flame patches to help your healer out cause tank will still take alot of dmg.
Try not overagro as you don't have fire res gear and you'll eat an easy 20K firepunch. Use tricks/Misdirect in this phase.
Healer: Find a place near one of the glaives, away from fire patches,
Healers will have pay alot of attention to this phase. The tank will take dmg due to elementals, and patches, the dps due to patches and additional shadow dmg from illidan himself.
Also, keep an eye on illidan, he throws down a wall of blue flames which will cause heavy dmg, also counts for the dps.
Randomly Illidan will do Dark Barrage, this player will need fast healing.
--------
After both flames are dead, fire fades and Illidan will come down again.
--------
Phase 3:(demon phase)
Illidan comes down again, tank picks him up, drag him again to his beloved pilar. This is where the nuking will engage.
As next part involves the demon phase, this is also a tricky part.
Your group will have 2 options:
Safe way:
Keep dps normal, wait for demon phase, as demon phase starts:
-Tank and melee dps run away to the healer at the center.
-1 ranged dps will take agro and has to stand away from the group.
After ~40sec in phase Shadow Demons will come (4), and stun random targets. Hopefully one of your dps is free, to free the others, if its healer or tank this will result in a wipe, so RNG fun <3.
Kill demons, illidan leaves demon phase, nuke him all to get Maiev to enter.
Tricky way:
If your party has enough dps (22K+ 'raid' dps). You can try nuking illidan down to the part where Maiev enters.
Use tricks/misdirect to keep agro on tank. Just burst him down when he is a demon. When he enters demon phase it won't matter anymore (healer will have to heal everyone).
If you managed to pull it off you will skipp demon phase/Fiends, leaving the hard part out. If not u will stand close to illidan, demons come, wipe.
Last phase:
Roleplay part, everyone stunned
Watch out after this ends, as Illidan will go for the dps that was topmost at last phase, so tank, intercept illidan and pick him up. Dps hold it!
This part should actually be the last part. Hopefully, all depends on your dps, maiev will use traps in fight that even increase dmg with 100%, if you fail to down illidan here (Ö! no way) Demon phase will come again.
You can just dps down Illidan or even drag him to the traps, doesn't really matter. (It shouldn't rlly)
Illidan down, Hope for GLAIVES !!(we had no luck so far)
Hope this guide helps out those who would want to go BT and try this aswel! Anyway! Good Luck to who ever will try and hope to see another movie like ours! Thanks for reading!
